i was going to get the stevens 200 in the 22-250 for $309 and then put a redfield scope on it but then i saw a savage clip package 22-250 at bass pro for $399 with scope. what is the way to go on this, i want the best shooter. i can always upgrade optics later if its the package gun. the guy at BP couldnt tell me the difference between the two so i figured the gurus here probably could. thanks

The only way to find out which one shoots best is to shoot them both. Just going off the info you have provided, I would go with the Stevens as well.

Hard to say which one would shoot better but I do like the idea of a clip. Safer in my opinion. Having said that I do own the Stevens 200 in 22-250 and it's a shooter. I'm using the cheap MidSouth 55 PTSP Varmint Extreme bullets and H380 and it groups consistantly under an inch. I glass bedded it and did a trigger job. Pull isn't perfect but it breaks clean at about 4 pounds. I made this my snow rig and gave it a white camo paint job. My hunting buds and I bought 3 of them when a local gun store closed and we got them for $185 buck each. Couldn't pass it up at that price! Here's a picture.

Knowing which Savage it is that you seen might help us tell you which one is better. If it was the Edge I would definately go with the Stevens/Redfield combo. If it were the Savage Model 11, which I doubt it is for that price, I would have to go with it. Another thing to consider if the one at BP is the Edge/Axis is that you can get one of them new for about $260 shipped from Buds Gun Shop and there is no way them cheapo scopes they put on there are worth the extra $140. With all that being said, I have a Stevens in .223 and its an absolute tack driver. Good luck.

i know it wasnt the edge/axis but the only other thing i could tell you is that it had a detatchable mag and the tag on it just said Savage Clip Package. Its on the new Bass Pro Sale flyer I just got in the mail today. I am gonna go get the stevens tomorrow after work.

I looked at the site a bit and most of the clip packages are 11FCXP3 or 111FCXP3

It also says (All guns with detachable box magazines are not available with AccuTrigger)

I have the Savage clip package 22-250 and even though it doesn't have an Accutrigger I absolutely LOVE that gun. I wasn't sure how big a fan i'd be since my .17 and 30-06 have the accutrigger but it really is a great shooting gun

You'll never really know which one will shoot better unless you buy both of them.

I had a stevens in 243 last year that was a shooter some days, like 1/2" at 100 with its pet load, and then somedays it wouldn't keep a 5 shot group on paper at 100 yards with the same load, it would throw 1 or 2 shots completely off the 8x11" target. I never could figure it out, didn't have the time or patience to wanna figure it out either. Savage been nothign but headache for me, sold it and replaced it with a rem 700 in 243 that shoots ridiculously good so far.

well i went ahead and bought a stevens and will try it out for a while. i already plan on getting another one later one. may just have to try the clip package

The savage would not have a better trigger unless it says Accu trigger on it. If it does it is a steal for $400 or less and I would go that route. If not gor for the package it does not sound like too bad of a deal.
