Which powder for .243 and .270

Just wondering what people use for .243s and .270. Been using IMR4831 for the .243 and W760 for .270 and it's been working ok. Using 85 grain TSX for the .243 and 130 grain TSX and 140 Accubonds for the .270. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
 
I am in the process of working up loads for the .243 using Benchmark and IMR 4895. I have not tried the IMR 4831 yet, but ya never know till ya try. I am useing a 85gr Sierra HPBT.
 
The whole deal in using one powder for multiple calibers ends up being a compromise.

IMR 4831 in the 243 and the 75's works ok, same in the 270.

H4831 in the 243 is a tad slow.

I really hate to see a guy go down this road, it is bad thinking all the way around. The next round of bad thinking is that He will only want to buy powders in the one pound cans, one pound at a time unaware that there are lot to lot differences in buring rates.

R#19 is perhaps the best for both the 243 with the 85's and the 270 with the 130's...best compromise. I shoot 45.5g of R#19 with the 85g Tripple shocks with a WLR primer and .050 jump with the 243, worked up a load with the 130g in the 270 but I won't put it in print.

H and IMR 4350 will work well for the 270 with 130g bullests and the 70-100g bullets in a 270, I would work with R#19 first however.

Sorry should have said something in the post. Doesn't have to be just one powder I meant it for to be multiple powders I just was seeing what people were using for either calibers... Thanks

I have never used anything but H4831 in a 270, and I have been reloading for over 30 years. I have tried a number of different powders for the 243, and have settled on IMR4350 and W760.
 
i use benchmark in my 243 im shooting 40.5 and 55gr nosler spitzer and im getting sub moa groups today i tried some imr4895 and i had a four inch group so that scraped that powder it might work for a heavier bullet i dont know till i try

shooting a savage with a 9.25 twist by all rules i should be shooting a heavier bullet if somebody else has a heavier load please let me know at least another starting point
 
Im using imr4350 in my 243ai with great results, shooting both sierra 85gr hpbt and 70 gr blitzkings. great groups outta both however am thinkin maybe trying a diff powder for the 70 blitz to get a tad more velocity. Those are runnin 3275 think i can squeeze i lil more . Any ideas? The 85 run bout 3200 and shoot sub moa consistant.
 
H4831 has been fueling the .270 Winchester for a very long time with perfect results. If I could only have ONE powder for the .270 that would be it.

And if only one powder were allowed for the .243 Winchester I guess it would be IMR-4350 and for the same reason as above.
 
Hybrid 100V is said to be excellent in both 243 and 270. I have not tried it yet.

I use H4831sc under a 130 Barnes TSX in my 270. Excelent accuracy and speeds. I was at 3,200fps with RL22 but got horizontal stringing. H4831sc gets me 3,150fps.

For the 243, I use Varget for the 85gr Barnes TSX and the 75gr Vmax.

H-4831 or H-4831sc in a .270 w 130 grn. Noslers BT's

Varget for light weight .243 bullets( 70grn Nosler BT's )
H-4350 for 105 A-max in 243.

Ditto for me, that is my go to powder for both. My son-in-law loads his .257 Roberts with IMR 4530 as well.
