Just getting started and was wondering wat everybody uses or recommends? I wan't to reload 204,22-250 and 223 if that makes a difference?

Thanks
Gene

Gene, I picked up a powder dispenser from Midway Arms, when it was on sale...Very similar to THIS, along with a drop tube and set of case funnels...

While extruded powder will sometimes 'bridge' in the hopper, ball powder works great...I use the drop tube for those powder charges that pretty well fill the case, if I tilt the case and tube to about 15 degrees from vertical, the powder seems to pack in easier...More true with the extruded powders than ball...

Reddding Benchrest is a very good powder measure. I spent a lot of money on very expensive powder measures and the bottom line is that stick powder does not throw very accurately, including Varget. H322 and AA2015 throws more accurately than the other stick powders.

For this reason, I use Lee Dippers or the old Lyman 55 powder measure on larger stick powders, then trickle.

I bought an Ainsworth(Denver Instrument) electronic scale years ago to measure the weight of cores that I was making for bullets used in Benchrest Competition. This scale will weigh an object as fast as you can sit it down and pick up another. This scale debunked all the mystery in the idea of "volume" is better than actual weight as thrown charges were all over the map.

Redding 30-BR.

I have owned them all, including the large Harrrells, and the two best are the Lyman #55, and the Reddings - I sold the Harrells.

BEST???? Looks like I am the only one to say that my RCBS Uni-flow works best for me. I use it on all my pistol loads, and on my 223 when loading over 1000 rounds at a time. All my other rifle loads I use my RCBS Chargemaster 1500.

I wouldn't go that far. I really like my charge, aster

Like Cat I've had a bunch off them over the years. Right now I have 5 set up on the bench, the three at my main work station are two Lyman 55's and a Saeco Tru Speed. the Lyman's work well with short cut and ball powders and the Saeco works with log powder like 3031.

Over at the shotgun area I have Micro adjustable Hornady and at the other rifle press I have a micro adjustable Redding and an old no name that you have to pull the cylinder to adjust and it stays set up to load my 41 Mag as it meters 800X better than anything else.

About the only measure I really dislike are ones with the sliding rod to adjust.

A good meter beats the charge master IME. I have a RCBS Uni-Flow. I have used the redding, and hornady meters. They all worked well. I will be outfitting my Uni-Flow with a micrometer adjuster. They just work. I don't like electronic scales or dispensers, JMHO.

I have 2 Uniflows with the Micrometer adjusters. 1 set for large and 1 for small. You'll love them.

Well I have a Redding , Forrester, lyman, RCBS and 3 lee Perfect powder measures. They all work well with ball powders and the Lee and Forrester work the best with large extruded powders. I didn't buy all these . The Lyman came from grandad , bought the redding and an RCBS junior in 1980, baught the first Lee in 1991 , the other two came from friends that ugraded. Always wanted a Forrester so I bought one in 2009 but I didn't undeestand it had a simple vernier adjustment . It is not user friendly but throws very consistent charges. Just got the RCBS from a yard sale and it works about as well as the Redding. I'm not going electronic.

I use the Lee's for loading large charges of extruded powder and the others for ball powders . I have my Redding set for 24 grains of Xterminator for my 223's and the Forrester set for 23grains of H110 for 44 mags.

I have the RCBS chargemaster already. I was just looking for a good backup in case it went bad or to compare charges.

I'm new to the hobby,so just getting ideas of what other people use.

Thanks guys!!!

Gene

I find my-self second guessing my Chargemaster from time to time. But I still love it. I loved my chargemaster so much when I first got it I sold my RCBS uniflow and scale. Now I wish I still had them so I could go back to it from time to time... Jason
