Which Pulsar?

Night vision just getting legalized in Minnesota, looking for digital scope to get started. Thinking pulsar, but also open to sightmark or atn (or others). Debating which pulsar model to buy? N550, n750, n960? Hunt in southern Minnesota farmland. Most set ups are in open fields several hundred yards from cover. Most shots 100 yards in.

I'm not a fan of ATN thermals, but the 4k digital nightvision has really peaked my interest. The wraith is a disappointment imo, and i just don't know much about pulsars units.

Just curious Fred, what is your disappointment with the Wraith? It might help folks out here to know what you found that wasn't up to par.

well...I just pulled the trigger on a new XP38, not sure when I'll get it but I'm ready. I have had a ATN Thor(older model)thermal for about 5 years and I have had very good luck with it, the only problem (which was my fault) was the recording connection pulled lose and broke a wire, sent it back to ATN and it was repaired and back to me in about 4 weeks. I know ATN costumer service gets a bad rap, but the only time I had to deal with them there were no problems.

Considering that Pulsar flat out blows away ATN in the thermal dept. I was really in hopes that would also be the case for the Wraith in the digital NV dept.

Understood Fred, and thank you for the reply and explanation. I've read those same complaints as well. I'm certainly confused myself by some of the decisions made by Pulsar/Sightmark. Still can't imagine why anyone would include video on a hunting scope without sound, but I guess FLIR did on some of their Thermal models as well.

I don’t believe any night vision had been allowed previously. However, this may be changing with the following bill

Copy, Thanks!

OP, we are pretty excited for these.

Pulsar Digisight N455

Call me for PM pricing!

Also, we would suggest the Sightmark Wraith, regardless of the lack of audio features. We have a few on order...

I know the Pulsar N455 has some features the Wraith does not:

Picture In Picture
Integrated Pulsar rechargeable battery
StreamVision integration
Video and Sound (Video only on wraith)

This lists only talks about features. I have a Wraith on order and haven't used the N455 or any Digisight because IR wasn't allowed in my state until recently. However the specs on the Wraith says detection at 200 and Digisight says 550. Without using both, my thoughts are the Wraith is better suited for the hunter how hunts a lot during the day, but also wants to extend their time with some night hunting. While the Pulsar digisight can be used during the day, but is better suited for at night. I already have a thermal scope for night hunting, so went with the Wraith as I want to film more daytime hunts with it.

Curious why you couldn't film during the day with the N-455. Quality difference?

Also, I saw that the Wraith handled 308 and the Pulsar N-455 up to a 375 H&H, plus the 12 gauge, Does anybody have any experience with night vision on shotguns? I have concerns with pixel damage with my Thermal unit though it says it can handle the recoil. (Pulsar xq38)

I hunt sage and creek bottoms with a bait/calling setup and want to carry my AR/thermal and a shotgun/??? as the foliage often gets in the way.

I will admit I am not an expert at all on the N455. I haven't used one or any of the digisights. However, if you watch videos, it can be used during the day, but it isn't in color. Again, I may be mistaken on this. So, it appears to be a night vision scope that can also be used during the day. The N455 will have color palettes but the entire image is colored in whatever tone you choose.

The Wraith has a day and night mode, and the day image looks just like a standard video. Last year I used an ATN Xsight II for early season coyotes. I sold the ATN and am trying out the Wraith this year. I will be super excited when Tom says they are in.

I am very intrigued by the new digisight. The battery system already matching my thermal and the qd mount standard is very interesting along with the pulsar customer service. I just hope to see some video coming out with real world coyote hunting to see if it is going to be $500 better than the 4K pro. I am currently using a phantom and am restricted to under 200 due to the fixed 4x mag. So the picture in picture feature would be awesome for ID and longer shots.

I certainly hope the new N455 turns out to be a good scope. I can say with certainty however that the quickly discontinued N355 was anything but that. It had the PIP, Same battery as Trail/Helion, and stream vision app but did not have sound, and wasn't much good as a coyote hunting scope. My buddy tried one for about two months before giving it up out of frustration and going with a Trail XQ50. Here is a short clip of the best video my buddy got with it. Range was about 80 yds.

Hopefully the newer model N455 is much better. Maybe Tom will be able to post some videos of the N455 in use and you can see the difference.

I am only surprised by the MSRP at $1299 vs a wraith or 4K pro. I can see that video was super cloudy especially for 80 yards. Field of view at 6.2 seems adequate though.
