Which Savage To Buy?

Crusader

Guys,

I currently have a couple of Savage rifles for PD and target shooting, an FV in .223 and a 25 in .204. I want to get another in .204, one of the heavier models. I think my choice is limited to the BTCSS and the 12 VLPDM.

A couple of questions, basically, what is the difference in them? I realize that the BTCSS has the thumbhole stock (what are those slots in the forearm for, weight reductin, cooling, etc?), but other than that, they don't seem much different and they both weight 10 lbs.

Does anyone have either of those rifles? If so, what do you think of the accuracy?

I'd appreciate any info/suggestions you could provide.

Thanks,
Jim

Larr,

I briefly looked at the LRPV but kind of passed over it for a few reasons: with the left port, I thought it was a left-hand rifle? (The dual port does not come in .204). Also, I am not really crazy about single-shot rifles. Thirdly, it might be above my price range/budget.

What are the plusses to the LRPV? Being heavier, would it likely be more accurate?

Thanks for the input.

A LRPV has a awesome HS stock, the "target" Accutrigger, and the left port. The best part is the left port, it's kinda weird getting used to but once you do you'll never want another right port. If it were me I'd look for a used one if a new one is out of your budget.

I'm not a huge fan of thumbhole stocked stocks on firearms with tang safeties. I have one and find it a pain sometimes to switch my grip just to put the safety off.
