Today was the first day this season i could go out for coyotes, thought i would add a bit. I was reading this thread, and givin it some thought, so i went out this morning and found a good spot facing a little cross wind at about 20-30 degrees of downwind, big openings were cross wind and down, and lots of cover directly at my back. Was callin for 5 minutes or so, when a 'yote caught me off guard directly downwind, at about thirty yards. I lip squeaked a little, but he pretty much had me made, with my gun down of course. he came about ten yards closer, then turned to get out, he went out to about 40 before i could drop him. 22 win mag at the base of his skull. had to look long and hard for the hole, pretty dark red coyote. sorry, no pics. anyway, the point is, if I had been facing into the wind, i never would have seen the dog before he left. and he would have been 30 yrds or so behind me! likin this calling with the wind/ slightly crosswind stuff. looking forward to saturday.
