I was just searching the archives looking for info on rem.17 20 gr.accutips as far as fur friendly and killing power.I found alot of bad press for the round and then found a post (killed 55 bobcats in texas last month) the guy used 20 gr. accutips and they preformed great.I think Ill go with the 55 cats in a month guy's expierience.I am looking for a new go to fox round out of my 17 rem. and was thinking with the right f.p.s. the 20 gr.accutip might work.If it preformed that well on some of those smaller cats it just might be the ticket for fox at the right fps.Sometimes I think a bullet gets a bad rap because of one bad expierence some beginner posts about.Anyone with alot! of expierience with the 20 gr. accutip have any input?

55 cats in a month. Wow we. Let me check my toilet paper supply. Ok, I got plenty. Pick the cal you like and ignore the internet gobble.

It must be true - you can't post anything on the internet unless its true!!

Sounded like so much of the typical BS you read on the Internet I had to run a search for the thread. Now that I have I will say this; if Quinton Wagoner and Randy Shaw said they did it - then they did it. You can count on their word being good.

Why just to let you all know, I killed over 100 cats just last month! All one shot kills with a .22 revolver! Easy as pie!

I'm not sure, but I think that woman that handles the pet adoption at our local pound may be getting suspicious however. If so I may be forced to going back to picking them up off the streets. Bit of a bummer because sometimes they scratch you up pretty good if you are not careful.

Sounds like you've already made up your mind what you want to do and just looking for confirmation. Let us know how things work out.

Agreed,,, I believe about 10% of what I read on the WWW but if Q was involved I'd tend to believe the story.
That said, the AcuTip in the hands of the right shooter(s) may well be fine for the smaller Cats in West Texas but it's a fact that a AcuTip (which is just a V-Max of a different color) is a very frangible bullet. That's why there's a pic of a Gofer on the Box.
Best thing to do instead of trying to decide what to believe and what not to believe on the net is simply go out and kill a few critters with any bullet and decide for your self.
Me,, I've done exactly that and will stick with a well constructed HP where the 17's are concerned.
Luck

I am with RePete on this one. I love the 25gr Hornady HP for my 17Rem SD AR-15 cat slayer. Had a lot of good luck with it. No fur damage when you put the round where you need it. The 20gr Accu-tip was a bit harsh on fox fur, so I stay away from it, don't want to take the chance.

It seems that the honady 25 gr. hp gets the most consistant good review.for fox the 25 gr hp must be slowed down.Ive had good luck with 2800 fps reduced loads.I am going to carcass test the 20 accutip at different velocities as Im still after a 17 round that will stay in a fox on a broadside shot.Maybe thats not possible, but Im going to test.If not 25 hp it is.The Kindler golds my be better but at $68 a box of 200 Im more likly to stick with $16.95 a 100 hornady. But I am going to buy some of the kindler's to try because all in all its cheap entertainment.

If you knew the caliber of men posting in the thread referenced you might not be so quick to crack wise. There were a lot of extremely experienced reputable old time hunters posting in the thread and not one questioned the truthfulness of the story because they know the two guys hunting in the story are extremely capable hunters with a reputation that most can only envy. Few on this board today could keep up with the numbers these guys can put up. I'd love to hunt with Q Wagoner and/or Randy Shaw and I promise you I would keep my eyes open and my mouth shut and take in as much as I could. Here is the thread...

There are a lot of places in Texas where you can kill 55 bobcats in a month if you have the time, access and skills. I have not doubt it happened.

A 3 man team killed 10 cats in the Jan. 2012 West Texas Big Bobcat contest which is only a 23 hour contest.
