Who here only hunts coyotes?

Almost every hunt turns into a coyote hunt.ó I no longer hunt big game, just ducks, doves, javelina and predators. On duck hunts I hunt until midday and then use that boat or canoe to access land rec callers don't go to. Javelina hunts are pretty much coyote scouting trips, a couple years ago I was calling javelina in thick cover and ended up killing 4 coyotes on five stands. I don't hunt doves from blinds but walk them up on the desert so dove hunts are predator scouting trips also. Later in the season if I see good coyote sign I'll set up a stand for them and then continue the bird hunt. Just the opposite with quail, I'm usually hunting coyotes and spot some quail and get the shotgun out for a quick bird hunt before getting back to coyotes.

I hunt turkey, white tail deer and small game such as rabbits and squirrels. By far though, coyote hunting is my favorite. It's a huge challenge to call and kill coyotes, and even though it's very frustrating at times, when you succeed there's a huge sense of satisfaction.

September starts our season off with dove and archery for deer. Mid October starts Youth and rifle season for deer. Our deer season runs to about the second weekend of January. Quail season starts mid November, but we don’t start having hunts until December or so once we get cool enough weather to put the snakes underground.Duck season opens right before Thanksgiving and with a break in between goes out the end of January. Quail season wraps up the end of February. Burning season starts in March and Turkey Season starts April thru mid May. Predator/Hog control is done year round no matter what’s in season. I am in the woods at some capacity probably 300+ days a year.

I hunt everything that has a season and everything that doesn't. I even hunt things that don't have a heart beat, arrowheads, ginseng and yellow root is on that list.

Birds and rabbits, then deer. Coyotes became more of a problem on the ranch, began to focus on coyotes and deer hunting became too mundane. Haven't hunted deer for 20 years; hooked on predator hunting. Next phase hogs with some different exotics sprinkled in for a bit of variety in hunting techniques and to keep freezer stocked but coyotes have been #1 on the list for many years.

I hunt elk, whitetail, mule deer, moose, and waterfowl but coyote hunting is the only one that really holds any passion anymore.
American outfitters and hunters have really begun to wreck the bird hunting here in Alberta. Mule deer have had a few really poor winters. My boss polices the elk hunting harder than his own cattle and moose are only one every 4 years tag.
The one constant that almost nobody but me cares about is coyotes.

Right now, I am only hunting coyotes and upland birds. But, when I hunt upland, I have to quiet the voice in my head telling me I should be hunting coyotes.
