Hey,
Well I've been hunting squirrels all weekend and I just dont understand it. During deer season they are constantly bothering me and now I go hunting this weekend for them and did'nt see one. Anybody else had this happend to them? Am I doing something wrong?

Find an oak tree or a few oaks together, sit down, and wait. If you've got frozen snow on the ground like we do here, they are traveling more to try to find food. They are crossing a large expanse of open ground to get to the bird feeders on my deck-where I promptly blast them off with my pellet rifle or my Ruger Mark II pistol. Tree rats, a true nuisance.

That stinks, I saw 4 in one tree yesterday before my cousin scared them away as I was getting ready to take them down. I ended up killing one saturday at 65 yards with my 12 gauge and then one yesterday morning at 20 yards throguh think brush with the same gun.

Yep. Went out last week to pick off the squirrels that have been ravaging my corn feeder all deer season. During season I had as many as 13 around it. Never even saw one. But, they have been in the process of logging all around me, so this had a lot to do with it I'm sure. Once the acorns are gone and it gets real cold they tend to hole up more.

Those critters are smarter than they get credit for. Their intellect has evolved to where they see hunter orange they have free reign to pester and harass humans. When they don't see hunter orange they know its revenge time. Throw them a curve and squirrel hunt sporting hunter orange.

Squirrels are migratory in the sense that as a food supply starts dring up they will move to another area with more or different food. Here in Missouri as the mullberrys start ripening, you start seeing more squirrels in the area of these trees.Later on as the hickory nuts start ripening you'll see an increase numbers in the area of these trees.Different areas of the country vary in the food availiblity, but this seems to hold true.

Well I got to tell you my secret, I use some heavy laods made for crows with 4 shot (1 1/8 oz) and then I was also using a extra full trap choke tube. I reloaded these shells cause whenever I crow hunt this will tkae the oens that are just out of range of the trap loads. They are about the same as 2 3/4 inch turkey laods!
