Wild pigs

Carbine,
I've seen them respond to a baby pig squeeler call. The only draw back would be they're responding to one of their own in distress and they're coming in "pissed".

I suppose it depends on what weapon you're holding at the time of their arrival, as to whether you should be concerned to the hog's temperament or not. The gentleman that I was talking with was using a bow, so he had to climb a few trees before he learned to stop calling BEFORE the hogs reached him. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Good hunting, Bowhunter57

I've had two ferral hogs come in to a cotton tail rabbit tape, one 250 pound boar gave me a good scare. When he got to 20 yards I stood up and told him it was a trick, but he kept right on comming to around ten yards where he pulled up and we had a stare down for a few seconds. He never did get scared, just turned and left. I, on the other hand, was just a little pumped. One more second and he would have been bleeding from many holes!

I did not realize that those wild hogs in Texas were so big. I always thought they were all 35lb size javelina (sp)so where can I get more info on this hunt

Jim, trust me, they get bigger than that here. They fear nothing and eat anything. They ruin your deer hunting and tear up the ground and crops. They are prolific breeders and one sow can be responsible for up to 3 litters of 10 to 15 piglets a year. Multiply that out. The big boys have tushes 3 to 5 inches long and sharpen them on the lower tushes until razor sharp. They are one of the most fun animals to hunt especiallw with a bow and dam good eating. Outside of griz or polar bears, the most dangerous animal to hunt on the North American continent

Also, Jim, they are considered ferel in Texas therefore not game animals and no restrictions on hunting them. There is a lot of National Forests in East Texas so it is free. Only require a hunting license. There are paid hunts and roll your own here. Most landowners will let you hunt them free just to get rid of them. It seems that landowners are just realizing that people will actually pay to hunt them so this is becoming harder to find now.

I AM GOING THIS WEEKEND AND I AM GOING TO TRY A PIG SQUEALER A FRIEND OF MINE HAS. I KNOW A HOG GUIDE IN EAST TN AND HE SAYS THE PIGS WILL COME A RUNNING TO IT. I HOPE SO!

G'day! I was just reading a few replies and i must admit i never thought you could use a call for pigs, but then again its only natural instinct! Here in Australia there are plenty of pigs and there is nowhere for them to hide as they are considered vermin here. Some of the pigs here can go 250kilos (about 490 pound) now thats a lot of bacon if you miss one charging you!A lot of blokes here sell them to the chillers for human consumption in germany and the likes! I dont know if i'd have the balls to hunt them with a bow unless i had someone backing me up with a big calibre rifle. If any of you want to have a look at some of our hunting there are these sites www.australianhunter.com.au or www.gunsgame.com.au . Do you guys sell your pigs to chillers or the like? bye for now and good hunting to you all!

Hey Shaun are you close to (port agusta) I have a friend who lives there been trying to get in touch with him no luck...

And O-yea I have walked out into them at night with only a bow at night and it was not a happy
time, looked for a tree fast!!!

G'day RSGTX!I live in frankston victoria which is about 1050 kilometres (630-650 miles). I have been to port augusta on holidays one year but i didnt get to go for a hunt which was a bit of an annoyance as there is apparently a lot of good fox shooting there. I did get to go fishing and that was great as where i live the fishing is pretty useless. If you havent been over here before you should try as everyone from O/S has loved the place. Hope you can get in contact with your mate!
