wildfire and external speaker

has anyone had anymore success using an external speaker on their wildfire?

i was looking at seeing if it makes any difference and by chance found a similar speaker to the foxpro one but for a vast difference in price(canada prices lol)

Adding an external speaker like the SP60 will make a big difference in volume. You should remember though that a lot of volume affects your battery life.

ok cheers

i am hunting in sask in -20c i always carry spare warm batteries.
the cold plays havoc with anything

Ive hunted all day with the exact setup in -20 and the batteries lasted all day. These were new rechargeables. You get a ton more volume with the external speaker. I just made my own with a TOA 610.

i googled all day and there is loads of speakers in the states with the same specs as the foxpro one for a 10th of the price but i cant get $hit shipped to canada.
luckily i found one on amazon.ca shipped for $25 canuck

The Foxpro speakers are TOA SPEAKERS. You can get one for half the price Foxpro sells them for. $3 connector from radio shack and your done.

The speakers that FoxPro sells are well made and have the right hardware for you to put them to work as soon as you get them. If you think you can buy a speaker as good as them for half the money, by all means you should go for a deal like that.

well been a few weeks of trial and error and excellent help from a member here.

i managed to get hold of a TOA sc615t paging speaker for next to nothing cost wise.
i have taken out the transformer as the speaker came with one.
hard wired a jack plug directly onto the speakers.
put the unit back together and plugged it into my wildfire

and BOOOOOOOOm
mega loud external speaker for the caller caller.

hopefully out this weekend to test it out

Just keep in mind that you don't have the battery power or the amplifier to sustain a lot of high volume. You shouldn't have any trouble as long as you stay within your limits.

Could you give a little more detail about running it all day without a problem. How many stands, how much high volume, etc.? There is no way you can take an ecaller that runs on 4 aa batteries and a small amplifier and match the performance of one that runs on 10 batteries and a bigger amplifer. I just want the guys to know what to expect.

Sure, sun up to sun down with some drive time between each stand. Between 7-9 stands. Ii typically run the call for 60-80% of actual time on stand starting at half vol and hitting the top end on every stand for some time. I will say that sometimes I only use the external horn and turn off the internal speaker, stand dependent. I'd say the call is on for around 3-4 hours, with a good amount of higher volume calling. I will also say that I always carried extra batteries and never changed them during the day. I could be a bit off on my estimations as I have gone to the shockwave with the lithium pack last year. One day in particular comes to mind though where when I left the truck for the first stand it was -17F at day break and run and gunned until dark. I thought for sure I'd have to change batteries but I didn't. These are just my experiences with a smaller sample size. In short, I was pleasantly surprised with the battery life while running a second speaker, but I always carry extra batteries and a few hand calls just incase.

merkw09, I thought you were talking about a Wildfire with an external speaker. There is a world of difference between using a Shockwave with an external speaker. It has a bigger amplifier and runs on 10 batteries. If you are using the lithium battery pack as you indicated, they will last longer and work much better in extreme cold.

My caution was directed towards using a Wildire or an Inferno with 4 batteries and an external speaker. If you make 4 or 5 stands with some loud volume, and normal use, you may get by o.k., but if you hunt hard in cold weather in big country, expecting that little amplifier and 4 batteries to perform like a bigger unit, you'll get a surprise.

Al, I was talking about the wildfire with and external speaker the whole post. I was just saying that I have switched in the last year so my estimates could be a bit off. -17f, 8-9 stands on one set of batteries was done by me two days in a row with the batteries charged over night and no glitches. It did warm up a bit throughout the day, and I did tape a hand warmer to the call, not sure if that helped. Some stands only required the use of the external horn. The call was played with varying volumes but cranked up a good deal throughout those days. I was thoroughly impressed with the battery life that weekend. This wasn't typical for me as a usual day for me would consist of probably consist of 5-6 stands with a break midday, but it was a tourney. On days with 5-6 stands I rarely charged the battery midday. Like I said though these are just my experiences from 2 years ago so they could be misremembered. They went a lot longer than I expected, but I'd still recommend always having a spare set.

I can see that working the way you went about it, but I just wanted to be sure that some new guy doesn't think he can get Banshee performance out of an Inferno just by adding an external speaker. I think hammer0419 has the Banshee with an extra speaker. You can take the setup he has and crow hunt or hunt big country, pour on the volume, and it will still last.

I hear ya, that banshee looks like a [beeep] of a caller for the money. The external speaker won't make a wildfire or inferno a cs24, but I found it to be a vast improvement while still having a good runtime.

it doesnt matter if my batteries last 4 stands of 20 mins of calling
i always carry more batteries.
i never leave home without carrying a dozen spare with me.

same goes for ammo,i normally if lucky get two shots but always have 30 with me.

i never go anywhere unprepared(or try not atleast LOL).

i know when i have the cash buy a bigger unit, but as it stands now i cant warrant spending
$500 on a caller, hence why i went down the road of experimenting with this speaker.

I believe FoxPro was smart to give hunters the option of using an external speaker with the Wildfire and Inferno models, giving them the ability to reach out there with more volume when they need it. It was never meant to take the place of ecaller models with bigger amplifiers, bigger battery supply, bigger speakers.

Even with models like the CS-24C, Hellfire, and Banshee, you have that same option of using another speaker to increase your volume, widen your sound cone, and take advantage of stereo amplifiers. They are always trying to make things better for the customer.

I managed to get out today and ut all went well

I did four 20 mins stands with just the external speaker.
I started off half volume then went full tilt after.
Four brand new batteries and it worked and didnt die on me

I didnt draw any dogs in as its 3c and a 50 km wind today here in sask

The sound carried really well as it drew in the crows from
A good distance

I am happy with my setup

That is great news, saskHKuk. I don't imagine it was too enjoyable with those temps and that much wind, but at least you got to test your setup out.
