Will coyotes hunt/kill prey during the day?

We lost two pet ducks to some sort of prey during the daylight hours. One minute they were there...and 15 minutes later...there were just feathers.

I'm not sure if it's neighboring dogs or coyotes.

Do coyotes hunt/kill during the day?

Coyotes will hunt and kill 24 hours a day. We used to raise domestic turkeys and the only time they were let out of the pen was during daylight. As soon as your back was turned and you least expected it, coyotes would kill one right in the barnyard.

Another thing to consider is predatory birds. Years ago a neighbor family lost a pet duck to a bird of prey.

I never thought that owls operated much during the day, but at the last PM hunt, Crapshoot and I had a great horned owl show up on a stand.

I witnessed personaly well over 1oo coyotes hunting during the day in the last 4 months alone. Sad thing for them, they were hunting what they thought was a distressed rabbit. They won't be hunting in the day any longer. Ain't it great.

In a word, yes. I've had some real good calling in the fall here during the afternoon. I was lucky enough one time to catch a coyote enjoying its lunch right at noon one day. I was returning from hunting, while driving one of the many "back roads" here. I looked into a small ravine and there was a coyote enjoying his freshly caught dinner. I proceeded to give him a 55 gr. V-Max from my .223 for dessert. What a way to top off your lunch! God Bless The Troops. MI VHNTR

Something similar happened to me last year up in a stand, I was suprised by a red-tailed hawk landing in a branch 10 ft. away 1 o'clock high from me. I remaind motionless as possible and enjoyed the encounter. The bird screeched / called a few times then swooped down and scooped a chimmonk.

Another direction to consider. When I was growing up my neighbor had a small steam fed pond that he kept some domestic ducks on. He started to lose ducks but could not figure out where they were going. That was until we were down by the pond when one of the ducks started to scream and flap its wings then disappeared under the water. Was a scene right out of a horror movie. As it turned out he had one heck of a big snapping turtle harvesting ducks for dinner. We took the turtle a few weeks later.

Oh yeah, they usually move until 10 am before resting. I have called them in at noon and at 3:00pm. Nearly any time of the day. The guy on a airplane coyote control trip shot 4-5 that had a pronghorn herd cornered on a hill. That time the coyotes did not kill any, they got shot.T20

I agree with T20, Jon, Jason, and i have spotted and taken a couple of yotes during the 11 am to 2pm hour this year in the El Paso area.
