Will Nosler ballistic tips and CT silver tips group the same? Test results in....

Well I asked posters a few weeks ago if my pet load of Nosler 40g combined technology ballistic silver tips seated at 1.196" behind 27g of benchmark would have the same outcome if I used the regular 40g Nosler ballistic tip. well you be the judge...the red targets are 3 shot groups of the discontinued 40g STs and the black target is a four shot group with the BT's. These were 100 yard groups shot out of my LTR 223

Good shooting!

All else equal, the coating will change pressures and therefor have the chance of having to retweak your load.

I get they are the same bullet, but you cant disregard the coating completely and say its going to work out that way all the time in every cartridge.

I shoot the 55 grain CT bullets and the 60 grain ballistic tip and they are pretty close grouping the same but I like the CT better!

I thought the pressures were going to throw it off as well which was the question if it would from my original post a few weeks back. I wish they still made the 40g CT just because I liked the coating factor. I'm glad I wrote down years ago when I worked up the load that I seated it at 1.196", a little short , than my usual 2.2" because I tried them both yesterday just to be on the safe side and the 2.2" load opened up to about a half inch.

My thoughts as well. The 55g `s out of my .243 are different.

Same bullet different colored tip. At one time the company I worked for manufactured the tip's for Nosler. I molded millions of them'

What company was that??

.. and were they made loose or on long strips??

The company name was Kaso Plastics. They comeout of the mold on a strip and were packaged loose at that time but things may have changed sense then. That was in the 80's when Nosler still had the patent on them. They had it good for 20 years then the other guys got into the game. They are usefull, but the advertizement people want you to think that they can make dudly poor shot an expert. It don't work that way. They protect the large cavity and give a higher BC but high speed photo's show they shatter and go away the second they strike someting hard and play little roll in expansion.
