will red fox come to coyote howl

will a red fox come directly to the source of a coyote howl? My friend and I have differing opinions on this.We both usually use a rabbit distress first then might howl.My opinion is that a fox might very well keep coming after a coyote howl but will be very reluctant to come directly to the source and this will likely cause him to come much slower and keep him much farther away for fear of being killed by the bigger dog.My friend on the other hand believes that a red will not only respond but will likely come faster if a howl is made.I just think that we should be more conservative in how often we use howls in an area just as likely to net us a red as a coyote. We just recently started hunting together. Both of us are new to all of this

I think that we have seen a big decrease in fox here in the mid-south because of the explosion in coyote. I'm not sure a coyote howl would bring them in... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused1.gif

IMO... they might if you howl then go to a fox distress sound. I think that a Grey might be a little more likely to come to a howl then... they are frisky little critters that will fight tooth and nail! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

They did on the most recent Randy Anderson Primos Truth video. I wouldn't howl if you are targeting foxes. But if they are curious, they might come in, just like bobcats will come in to a howl occasionally.

they say that coyotes will kill a fox. i have both coming to my dead pile, never have seen them at the same time, but they do share the same territory.

Don't do it, you will be wasting your time in 99% of times. Coyote WILL eat fox and if you sound like a $50lbs dog, a 15lbs dog certainly ain't gonna come and see what its about.

Keep it to Fox barks, fox mating howls and distress calls.

IMO, what happens in hunting shows cannot be used as proof either. We all know how those shows get made, from the land they hunt to other factors that they don't have to deal with.

Well this is strange had to search for the thread and new to the forum, but my last 3 set ups after playing a howl to try and get yotes to answer and then going back to baby cottontail dostress I had red fox come in...

I have fox on my bait pile every night. They are part of my early warning system for when a coyote is in the area. They degass the area quite rapidly and thoroughly when they get the slightest hint that a coyote is coming in

I guess it depends where you are located. Here in the east we have way more fox than coyote and many times I have ended a set with a howl only to have a fox come to it. Go figure. Pup distress does work better though.
