winchester 22-250 45gr hp (white box)

I have tried a number of different rounds through my savage 22-250. Winchester 50 & 55 grain silver ballistric tips, these cheaper winchester 45 grain hollow points, and even remington 55 grain soft points. For some reason my gun seems to love those cheap winchester hp's. I use my gun strictly for coyotes and bobcats. I'd rather shoot a heavier bullet then the 45 gr hp though. Fur isn't worth anything right now so I'm not worried about the pelts. I don't like coyotes that spin, and I don't want to worry about splashing if I get into the shoulder.

Does anyone else have the same success with these 45 grain hp's? What's your best factory load for your 22-250?

My Sako loves all of those. the 45's are the cheapest to shoot. Seems like they are the dirtiest too. Does well on the coyotes just not as well in the wind as the heavier ones.

I had a Remington 700 BDL in 22-250 and I couldn't get it to shoot anything but 45gr bullets. I even tried about a dozen different reloads and nothing would shoot with the 45gr bullets. Seems like mine where cheap federals though. Regaurdless it loved 45 grain bullets.

A lot of guys around here report these shooting well in their rifles. They also report inconsistant performance on game. That has been my experience as well. One bullet may open up well on soft tissue and the next may zip right through leaving a .22 caliber hole.

I picked a box up for my 1:9 twist savage and it didnt care for them which was a given IMO, they made it to the target but it more like a pattern than a group. Great for brass though.

The 1:9 twist in my savage offers better groups with heavier 50-69gr bullets; but as others have said - the "white box 45's" seem to stabilize much better in my 1:14 Remy.

My Savage Mod 12 22-250 does easy 1/2 group with 55's @100 but really tightens up with those 45 1/4 @100 but could not tell you what it does on coyotes yet but I'm going to find out this week and I'll let you know. The 55's were easy on the fur though I shot one left of center in the chest more to the shoulder and put her down and out with no exit hole.

All my .22-250s love em. It is the most accurate factory load i have found yet. My stevens 200 loves them and usually puts the first cold clean barrel shot about a 1/2 high but still dead on and groups very well. It will be my coyote load until i get time to reload something that shoots similar with a 50 or 55 grain bullet. My savage 12FV likes them as well but it has the same 1 in 12 twist. Havent tried them in a 1 in 14 yet. Some of my buddies laughed when i shoot my "cheap" rifle and use "cheap" white box bullets till they saw the results.

My m-77 shoots them very good. I have shot 15-20 dogs with them and only had one do the spins And it was a frontalshot and I hit him low. What I have found is if I do my job those 45gr pills do there job. Just my $.02

I shoot the 45gr white box Winchesters out of my Encore and the shoot one ragged hole at 200 yds. I have taken several coyotes with it and they seem to work just fine on them. They are very fast and shoot pretty flat, and the price is right for most folks. No complaints here for the 22-250 rounds.
