Winchester 22-250,45 grain JHP(white box)

Is this a decent load for yotes without tearing up fur really bad? A friend of mine has several boxes for sale but I dont want to buy them if they will ruin the fur.

I wouldn't hesitate to use them, but I've not killed a yote with them. They clock right around 4000 fps out of my gun and shoot pretty well...........

I've shot a few with them in .223 and .22-250. Can be brutal on fringe shots up close but just an entrance hole on good hits.

I'd say more coyotes are shot with these bullets than any other just because of their availability(Walmart) and a great price. Might not be true but I'm sure they're close to the top.

An awesome round out of my Savage 12FV with super accuracy and has killed them to just under 400 Yrd's. Since the mange has invaded our area I don't worry about the fur, as it will at times blow a hole the size of a tennis ball in a coyote with certain hits. It has done this at over 300 Yrd's with certain hits such as a lungs with no other bones being hit.

I don't have a 22-250, but the 45gr white box is all I coyote hunt with in my 223. Fast, good performance on target, and very accurate. Last group in my rifle was .401 at 100 yards.
If not shot square in shoulder or hips, they tend to make large exits. Fur is not good here so it doesn't bother me.

the 223 version opens up a 2 inch across by 3 inch deep hole in the frontal chest area. Fur means nothing to be, I like big holes and lotsa blood.

t/c223encore.

I bought a box a few years back because of the low price, big mistake!

They will work on coyotes, IF you don't mind putting a second bullet in their head!

I shot about 6 or 7 coyotes with them, the only one I remember that didn't need a finisher was a small female that ran about 75 yards after a perfect chest shot.

Another time I came upon a pair out in a field, two shots and they both went down. But when I got to them I found two incapacitated coyotes laying on the ground but with their heads up looking at me!

They seem to act much like a miniature hand grenade, high on shock and energy transfer but severely lacking in penetration.

I do not recommend this load for anything larger than about 15 pounds. (small coon size).

i strictly use 55 grain soft points out of my .223 they can be very cheap in price and ive heard from numerous people that they are better on fur and instant death than a hollow point! JMHO

With decent shot placement I've exprienced many one shot kills. Very few have ever managed a step after the shot. Different strokes for different folks.

After killing 56 coyotes with the Winchester 45Gr in my 22-250, I guess I was surprised that the killing ability was in question. The ability of a coyote to pick themselves up and try to run is amazing. I remember a coyote that took a broadside hit that took out both lungs(about 265 Yrds) it jumped back up and run about 40 Yrds. The fountain of parts on the snow where it was hit showed a lot of lung material and when I examined the coyote it had a hole that a tennis ball would easily fit into on the back side. No splash just one h*** of a lot of damage. For there size they are one tough critter and there ability to run dead is amazing. One of the few rounds not to exit was a Texas heart shot and it sounded like it was turned to jello inside.

They are very accurate out of my rifle, a CZ 550 kevlar varmint. Shot 2 coyotes at one setting this week, a 30 pound male, and a this years pup, the first at 75 yards and the second at around 125 yards, both with chest cavity hits. There was virtually no blood at the entry site and no exit. Each one fell immediately at the shot. This is my first experience with this round on coyotes, but seems to perform well thus far.
