I know some of you guys have a good handle on gun values. What do you think this Win 94 is worth? Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Winchester 94 32 W.S.

On one side it's says "Model 94-Winchester-Nickel Steel-32 W.S."

Back by the hammer it says "Model 1894 Win. Pat. Aug. 21, 1894"

On the bottom of the receiver it says "L07968" or "107968".

Thanks Jack. I did some more digging last night and that must be the serial number on the bottom of the receiver. That serial number was built in 1897. The rifle is in great shape. The wood is really good, no pitting, and the bluing is faded just slightly on the receiver.

If it was built in 1897 and is really good shape without being refinished than it will be above the 1000.00 range, do you have any pictures you could share?

I have to take new pictures. I took some with my phone and emailed them to my computer and they turned out real fuzzy. Here is one of them.

Overall your rifle looks to be in very good condition for its age. If the receiver has no pitting from sweaty hands or chemical stains, it has taken on a very nice patina which is what happens with old age-worn blueing.

As was mentioned, the overall condition including original appearance, the functioning of the action, and the quality of the bore all help to determine value. In addition, old rifles like that are a buyer's market; if you find someone who wants it to fill a hole in a collection, they might pay far more than the guy who wants it because it looks like the one he shot his first deer with "back in the day".

The link is for a large new and antique gun dealer in Houston, TX who has a few Model 94's on hand. The specialize in old and hard to find weapons as well as having a huge inventory of all kinds of new weapons. You can see that the prices vary considerably based on appraised condition and value. Things like sling swivels, extra holes in the receiver, and special aftermarket sights can reduce the appraised value very quickly.

Only a close hands on appraisal of your rifle by a knowledgeable person will really tell you what its worth. And then you have to find a buyer willing to pay the appraised value. Internet quotes are just guesses.

Here is my 94 in 32WS made in 1949.
It has a 1ADA Lyman tang sight and a folding Lyman NO. 6 rear sight.
The sights and sling are worth $500 and the rifle is worth $700

32WS first came out in the October of 1901. If 107968 is right that makes it made in 1897. I would guess you receiver was made in 1897 but barreled after 1901 and then sold. Someone could of had his 30-30 sent back to Winchester and had the barrel changed. Winchester could of had extra receivers from 1897 and did not use them until 1901. This could be a testing rifle.

There is a chance you might have a rare rifle. You need to write The Cody Firearms Museum Records Office. To get more information,

My dad bought one made in 1930s not quite as good as yours for 400. That was 2 years ago, he dickered with the dealer for a year before he bought it
