Good morning,
I just bought a .308 and am looking for a bullet for white tail. I look at all the different brands and bullet grain weights and am just overwhelmed. I know that I just need to shoot a few different types and see which fly best but don't really want to spend a boatload to experiment. Can you help narrow down the search and start me in the right direction? I really don't want to get into the hand loads just yet. I kinda just wanna shoot something right out of the box. Please help me with Brand, Bullet and Grain weight

Thank you in advance

For deer cheap Remington Express or Winchester with 150 grain bullets work fine. No need for a premium bullet when hunting deer. As long as they group decent you are fine.

I like 165 grn loads, just about all handloads. If I was buying store ammo I'd go 165 or 150. Since the 308 is plenty for deer most any good shooting game ammo placed in the right spot will do.

Black Hills .308 Match 168gr boat-tail hollow point shoot best in my two .308s - both heavy barrels- Ruger 77 MK II VT and a 700. IF I had a Sporter .308 for deer I'd try this as a starting point. Absolutely nothing wrong with 150 gr Remington Core-Lokt, IMHO - deer ain't grizzlies.

Old now, when I consistently hunted deer had excellent success with 30-06 in Sporters [700 & 742] and 165gr.

What kind of rifle did you buy?

Good luck, success and be safe.
