For several years, quite a few in fact, I used a Remington 870 and Browning A5 with 2 3/4" chambers and factory fixed choke modified barrels. With some patterning work to find the best modern short magnum load for your particular gun, I'd bet you can stretch the range to at least 30 yards. Maybe beyond that by another five yards or so. Those older guns tended to shoot tight for their markings and modern shotcups and shot have added yards to our shotgunning range. The old gal may prove more satisfactory than you might at first think. Your modified barrel and short chambering isn't going to compete with a Roman Candle 3 1/2" and super tiny tight choke, but a bunch of turkeys are killed within 35 yards anyway. Especially so when the woods green up late in the season. Good luck and enjoy a fine old shotgun! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif
