I was wondering what you all thought of the Winchester Model 70 in .223 WSSM? Got a chance to buy one and I have not heard anything about them. Your thought would be very helpful.

Thanks

Don't do it. Tons of Technical problems. Well know for very poor accuracy even when chambered in custom rifles. Want some thing hot get a 22-250 AI..............

Do you have any experience with a 223WSSM? I have one in a Browning Medallion and it shoots .2s all day long. I have not had any problems with this rifle ever. I love it and it is short and my daughter shoots it alot and really likes it. The only downfall for now is it heats up fast. But as for a cartridge it is very fast and flat. HAPPY HUNTING

im thinking about geting a 25 wssm but in a browning a bolt hunter... its off ther short action.. but im going to wait about another year still.. they stoped making the wssm from my understanding even stoped making factory rounds after this summer .. so when i get it im going to buy about 500-600 rounds of brass and a set of dies.. it will be enough to last my little girl the rest of her life for a yoke/deer gun and if i see some cheap stuff down the line i can all ways grab it up and if it gos south i can all ways turn it in too a 223 or what i really want a 300/221 for yokes my self lol

Be carfull they have a chrome lined barrel and a heap of the winchester models had a bad run on the barrel liners. The brownings where the best out of the lot and as far as i know havnt had a problem.I would buy it only on condition that i could return it for cash refund or swap for another rifle if i had any problems with it.Know some guy bought a winchester 223wssm and had bad accuaracy problems because the liner burned out after a few shots and it shot real bad groups at only 50yrds.The rifle went back and forth to winchester several times blaming ammunition etc and would not take reponsability before the guy lost patience and threatened lawsuit before they refuned him.

I about bought one. It was a really good deal. Then I wondered why the gunshop was trying so hard to sell it to me, so I did some research. I read a lot on that caliber. You might want to check out Benchrest Central. I decided there are too many cool calibers out there that I find interesting that don't have so many problems. Instead I got a 22-250 and the more I learn about the 223 WSSM the more I know I made a good decision.

Some good advice here.

My son owns a Browning Abolt in 223wssm, and it is an excellent shooter. He had the Win Super Shadow, but, as has been stated, it was a poor excuse for a rifle. My notes are full of 6", 10" 13"+ patterns with the the Win.

For FPS, there is no factory cartridge that competes with the 223wssm. Hornaday got 4,600fps with the 40gr Vmax. That's smoking.

A 60gr Nosler Btip at 3,700+ is a coyote hammer.
