Winchester Model 70 7mm short mag

I've got one in 300wsm and I like it. It shoots good for not having a free floated barrel. The one thing I would do is have a trigger job done. I had mine droped to about 3.5 pounds and it is alot better. It also likes the Barnes 180gr X bullets. The 300wsm is a great round. Just about the same as the 300win but with a shorter cartridge.
If I was going to get a 7mm mag I would look at the 7mm ultra mag. Check its ballistics. You wont go wrong with a 7mm mag but I just thought I would throw some info at you. You might also look at the Savage in any of these calibers. They come free floated and with a acu-trigger. You can adjust the acu-trigger from 7 pounds down to around 2 I think. My lil bro has one in 25-06 and I just bought my father in law one in 308 and they are both shooters. Look on this site for some guns, they have some good deals.

I read that the 7mm WSM might be dropped due to slow sales. I got one of the first ones and a lot happened. The stock that the SS M70 Classic came with was bedded on the magazine box. After much work it turned out that the stock was just not worth keeping. So I bought a Bell & Carlson for it and exchanged that as the material was soft.

All this time the rifle shot quite well so I kept going.

Then a gunsmith in Canada wrote a piece on how the chambers in those M70's can be out of round when the barrel is tight as they broach thru the threads part way for the bolt lug clearance.

Sure enough mine is out of round about .0019". Someone promised to "take care of it" for me I have to follow up on it.

In the mean time I bought a Kimber 8400 in 270 WSM. That one is good so far.
