I am heading out to SD in about a month for prarie dogs and need to stock up on Winchester White Box .223 (they shoot great out of my Rem 700 VLSF). Midway has the best prices I can find but they are always out of stock. Anyone know another good source with good pricing? Thanks-

goody523,
Welcome to Predator Masters! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I hate to say this, because I prefer to patronize local gun dealers, but Walmart has the 40 rd. bonus pack for $12 and Meijer's is about the same. Meijer's also has UMC in 200 rd. packs for $59.
Good luck "painting the town red". /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

goody523,

I also used to buy the Win. white box at Wal-Mart for the same price, and they actually shoot pretty good. But, if you really want to save money and shoot a lot start reloading. I just reloaded 500 .223 for about $70.00. It might not be top quality ammo, but its as good as Win. white box or PMC stuff along that lines.

Also check out cabelas they sometimes have good deals on bulk ammo, like Wolf and Win.

I just can't get too excited about reloading - my dad has all the equipment and he only lives 10 miles away so it would be easy enough, but I can't see spending the little free time I have reloading. I would rathre spend the $11.00/box and spend my time at the range. To each his own I guess.

If like those, ya ought think about the UltraMax 50 gr TNT's. My gunsmith gets me 1000 rounds for $215 dollars, which is a VERY good deal! Equivalent to $8.60 per forty and the shoot lights out!

Hope those Win white box 45 grain pills work better on rats than coyotes. Some of the remanufactured ammo companies like ultramax and black hills sell thier rounds cheaper than the reloading components.

Hi Tec 223 Brass per 1000 ready to load
$55
1000 Speer Varminator 50 grains pills 224 diameter
$77
Primers per 1K
$20
Powder 25 grain loads 3.57 pounds per 1K
Accurate 2230 (my favorite for 223)
$45

Total - $197 with brass - $142 without brass.

I suppose I should try out some other brands, but the I tried the Winchester White Box stuff first after reading few posts about guys having good luck with the accuracy and I think the gun/ammo combination is more accurate than I am. Yesterday at the range we had perfect conditions (very light wind, 55 degrees) I had one 3 shot group at 300 yards that was just over 1.5". If I could repat that very often I would probably get big money for the gun, but I think it was probably a fluke. Even on my normal groups though, I was able to hold 3.0" to 3.5" groups at 300 yards which I am pretty happy with. I suppose I might have good luck with something else, but I like what I am getting and I can find the ammo just about anywhere.

I shoot the white box ammo quite a bit, and they shoot great out of my CZ. If your not interested in saving any fur than I would use the hollow points they can make a big impact.

I would suggest the blackhills blue box with the 50gr vmax. There a little more expensive than the white box stuff, but you get what you pay for.
