Wolf bullets

according to the Minnesota DNR website I will receive a wolf tag.generally I use Hornady Vmax 50 grain bullets in my 22 250 Sako a7 with a 1 and 14 inch twist. was looking for a little sturdier bullet and was considering the burger match varmint 52 grain. was wondering if anybody had any experience with these bullets or other recommendations I cannot go with a much heavier bullet with a one and 14 inch twist. I would prefer to use this rifle.

I would use sierra 60gr hp. Been a great bullet for me on deer and coyotes and it will stabilize in a 14 twist. I have shot it in 3 14 twist 22-250 and have had very good results.

"match/varmint", and "sturdier" don't go in the same sentence in my head.

I haven't tried them in 22 caliber yet, I do have a box ready to load when I get around to it, but I've been converting all my game rounds over to barnes tsx/ttsx. I've been impressed with everything I've used them on so far.

I would not hesitate to shoot the barnes 53 grain tsx. complete pass through on the coyotes I shot with them last year and small exit holes. I am shooting them out of a 1 in 14 twist also. all were drt.

Cabelas has the options of match and match\varmint. When shooting the 55 grand or the 60 grand bullets my accuracy would decrease patterns would open up

They're a mystery to me. Every animal I've hit from goat to elk, tiny entry hole, tiny exit hole, insides look like a grenade went off.

I've never shot a wolf, but have done a bunch of reading and research since it is in my plans soon. VMax is a poor choice. I would personally load Nosler Partitions if I were in your shoes. You need penetration, and from what I have heard from people who know, wolves can be harder to bring down than you might think. Just my thoughts ....

A 1-14 twisted 22-250 doesn't present many options. A TSX would be the way I'd go, if forced. Maybe a 60gr Partition if it shoots well.

I would choose a different gun, myself.....

Sierra 55 gr GameKing. All you'll need for a wolf!! I've used them on deer, biggest one being a nice big 5x4 Manitoba Whitetail. If they work on a deer, they'll definitely work on a wolf!!

I agree you definitely need some penetration that is why I'm looking for a different option.just trying to narrow down some choices before I spend a bunch of money on stuff I don't need. thanks for the input.

I would prefer to use this gunbecause I have a lot of confidence with itif I can find the right bullet combination. my next option would be my 270

How hard is it to draw a wolf tag in Minnesota? I really have no idea. If it's a once in a lifetime thing I would personally want to make sure I have the perfect equipment for the job.

If your set on the 22-250 I would say give the Gamekings a try, I've mentioned on here before I have a good friend who swears by 55 gr Gamekings out of his 22-250 for deer. I've seen the results and they work very well I would think they would be a fine wolf bullet.

I guess my AR 15 DPMS prairie panther is also an option with a 1:8 twist. It seemed a little light to me but with the heavier bullet option maybe its better.

"IF" it will fit in the magazine. Gotta take that into consideration.

I'd prefer his .22-250 with a 60 grain bullet. Speed kills .....

70s will fit into the magazine just fine. This doggie didn't like the 70gr TSXs much:

Right you are Hidalgo, I haven't jumped into the AR game yet so I sometimes forget about mag length. I just can't make up my mind about which one I want.
