Wolfenstein Enemy Territory is a free download video game that I am totally addicted to.

Basically is a first person shooter set in WW2 where you play against others online.

You play as a team where you can be an engineer, medic, covert ops, etc. all working to complete an objective.

The game is really detailed and I've picked up a lot of tactics playing against other humans.

This is such a good military training source I wonder why it's available for free?

Anyone else tried this? or interested?
 
Yeah, I went through my geek stage and played all of those games. I started with the first shareware Wolfenstein, became addicted and went on to all of the versions of Doom and their bonus packs. I played all of the Half Life’s and Max Payne’s as well. I am burned out right now, but did enjoy them a lot.

As for good military training, you’re right. I remember listening to a story on NPR about this very topic. They said during WWI, the new soldiers shooting to kill ratio was horrendous. During the WWII it had come up but was still pretty low and it wasn’t until they started using human silhouettes that they saw the ratio increase. The ratio now is very high compared to even the WWII ratios and they say it is because of the style of ware games the military use for training and the video games that desensitize boys to pointing guns at another person and pulling the trigger (the NPR twist) - pulling the tigger is a good thing when it comes to war.
 
I wouldn't dare download it, DC. I waste far too much time on SOCOM II on my PS2. Last thing I need would be another time suck. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
