Wolves in New England?

This is a hotly debated topic. I have spoken to some who believe that there are some in northern New England. The official response from game departments is that there are no native populations of wolves in Maine or New Hampshire.

I was wondering if anyone has any more information ? Has anyone seen wolves in New England? I know of one shot in Maine several years ago by a bear hunter on a bait. He did get in trouble. Some believed it was a hybrid let loose.

So . Any comments?

Well,
If you stop and think about it, if our coyote are a coyote/wolf hybrid then why cant there be wolves in New England?

I live in Washington County Maine. Last year I cut a huge track on the barrens. I could place my four nuckles inside the pad of the track. I told a warden about it the next day, he sent a biologist up who used to work in Montana studying wolves. He was 99 percent sure it was a wolf.

couple years ago there was a wolf hybrid running around rangley till it became a nuisance and died. i saw it cross the road and it looked real.
