Wolf hunters I read that the eastern coyote has bred with wolves.
They say they are 64% coyote, 13% grey wolf, 13% eastern wolf, 10 domestic dog. I have killed a bunch of coyotes, in the east & not 1 of them resembled a wolf. They are a little heavier than western coyotes, but the pictures I see of western coyotes look the same as mine. If coyotes & wolves are still breeding I would think you would see evidence. From 40 to 150 pounds is a big difference. You who hunt wolves do you believe coyote & wolves breed. Government DNA results, like many other government sponsored studies mean little to me.

I believe if the feds say coyotes have a high enough percentage of wolf in them then hunting them could be federally outlawed like wolves, but I always think of the worst most suspicious things first when it comes to those #$%^&*(&^%$$R^&**&&& U^*(^$%$^&ers.

Top to bottom....... Wolves hate coyotes and kill them if they can catch them. Coyotes hate foxes and kill them if they can catch them. Even in a wolf pack the only pair that mate are the alpha pair. That's their social structure. A high concentration of subordinate predators is a pretty reliable indicator that the dominant predator population is low or nonexistent. In other words, if there are lots of coyotes in an area there probably aren't many, if any, wolves. I've never seen any evidence of wolf and coyote pairing.

Where do you read this and who is "they say"?

I have a friend who found it on some gov. website. I think it was parks. She & her husband argued they breed according to website. I told them I would believe it when I seen evidence. Then she said well you are always right. I believe she thinks western coyotes are the size of rabbit beagles, as opposed to the bigger ones here. I ask them why don't coyotes breed red foxes here in the east. I talked with Jim Byers once about hunting coyotes on a ranch in Montana. He was unfamiliar with the area, but said if there were wolves there coyotes would not be present. That was all the information I needed to debunk gov. studies.
