Wood step ladders

I was going to get a wood step ladder to paint up for next season but i cant find one. All the home improvement places around here no longer carry them. Has anyone tried aluminum. I would be afraid they would be noisy.

Noisier but lighter also. If you are going to paint an aluminum ladder wash it down with TSP if you have it or white vinegar it will etch it and the paint will stick

i bought a wood step ladder at a yard sale the other day for 10 bucks dont ever look like its been used. it is a little on the heavy side though.

Personally, I'd get a fiberglas one, they're lighter than wood and mine's quiet. Home Depot puts them on sale at least once a year for 35% off.

Thanks for the response guys. I will look into both ideas. I hadn't thought about fiberglass. That may be the best compromise. I will wait for them to go on sale, they are spendy.

I found a fiberglass at Wal-mart for less than $50.00.

I found an old aluminum one for free, Figured at the price I would atleast use it to try and see what I liked or disliked before buying something else. Weight 7 1/2lbs I like, Noise isnt a problem once seated, Dont know how noisey it will be carrying in, I tried cammo duct tape on the rails thinking it might help dampen noise but the duct tape didnt want to stick longer then overnight. Thinking of trying a different brand of tape and just spray painting over it to cammo. Maybe some ghillie material on the rails would help dampen noise
