I received my WoodsWise Super XL Howler in the mail today. I promised that I would report my findings in regard to this howler so here it comes. The voice of this call is a Crit'r call type, and the reed appears to be .010 Mylar. A more narrow reed of about same thickness is also supplied. The voice can be removed from the black plastic bell for those times that you want to use it for a regular predator call or small howler. Barrel of the howler measures 2&1/2" at largest point. Total length of the call with voice installed is 8&3/8".
I found no flat spots or pitch jumps anywhere along the reed of this howler. The sound of the howls it makes will likely fool a coyote but to be honest, the howls didn't impress me much. I WAS able to get some decent puppy squeals out of the bugger though. With a bit of modification, I believe that I could make a better howler out of the XL, but I still like the Crit'r call "magnum" much better. This is only my opinion regarding the WoodsWise XL Howler. It ain't the worst 15.00 I ever spent either. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
