Wyoming Coyote Hunting

jafarris,
What part of the state are you looking at going into to? I used to live in Lander for a number of years. Lander is in the western part of the state at the foot of the Wind Rivers. Went to the National Coyote Calling Contest in Rawlins a few years ago and called in the area of Farson and Jeffery City, and also out on the Red Desert. Saw some coyotes and heard several different groups howling just about day light. This was in November of the year. Lots of public land, but also lots of private land. I guess it all depends on which part of the state your are thinking of heading into. Also, it never hurts to stop at some of the posted places and ask permission to shoot some coyotes. They eat calves just as well as they do sheep.
Again, what area are you thinking of going into?

Thanks Carl for the reply. I have never hunted Wyoming but decided to hunt this area in lieu of paying a guide to hunt in Canada. Was hoping to here from someone in the area who could put me on an area that was strong in the coyote population with out having to spend the first couple of days of a hunt just looking. Any area would be ok as the hunt has not been planned yet. I would also be wiling to hunt both Idaho or Montana if I could be lead to a great spot without the waste of acouple of days looking. Thanks again for any help you or any other Predator Master members who will help!

This would get more attention posted in the main Predator Hunting section. Most topics discussed in the Varmint section are crows, prarie dogs, groundhogs, ect... Just an idea to help generate more responses for you.

Go to the sage desert east of Cody. Drive until you see several dead rabbits on a short stretch of highway. Stop there and hunt. Dense rabbit population equals dense coyote population.
