X24 Volume

For those of you who run the x24, what volume do you usually run your call on. Say if you are playing MFK boone lonley or c'mere lonley, rabbit stew?

That's a great question. I'm also curious about this.

On my X24 these are my typical sound volumes:

Prey distress: 14 (fluctuating up and down between 12 and 16)
Adult howls/group howls: 24 (up to 26 in a huge field, 22 in closer quarters)
Pup howls/distress: 20-22
Social sounds: 18
Breeding sounds: 18
Pup fights/lighter fight sounds: 18
Adult fights: 20-22

Preset Vole Squeaks: 8 (in case there is one already in the field or hung up)

You and I are about the same. The high as I ever go with anything is 22.

50% of the time on stand, I am working the volume Up and down. How loud I start depends on wind speed, terrain, and how close I think the coyotes I am targeting are. If I hear them in a patch of cover close before I begin calling I start very subtle. When calling, If there is a tree line or terrain feature a few hundred yards away and I can hear my sound echoing I feel good that my sound is being cast into the distance. I throw my sound out there in layers. I want full volume to reach out to the coyote in the distance, which did not trigger on previous sounds, but then I ramp the volume back down so his ears are not getting burnt with a constant loud sound, I rarely have silence, in lue of silence - my coaxer sounds are just loud enough I can barely hear it, for If I have a coyote coming in I don't yet see I want to keep it committed. I often observe coyotes coming in on a string and if I pause the sound to soon they begin to circle to get the wind.

But "MFK boone lonley or c'mere lonley" if I don't think they are real close, I let those sounds rip at full blast.

If you ever had a coyote howl at ya at 15yds you would say that you can't run your call too loud-dang near hurt my ears! I don't howl or run mine loud but just sayin.
Yep… I’ve had them fire off really close on occasion and it isn’t quiet by any means. I used to be of the mindset that you can call too loudly and wouldn’t get past the halfway point on the remote. Then I read about and saw in videos videos where some big names said to crank it up. Well I did and noticed that I was getting more vocal responses running more volume.

I definitely progressively lower the volume if I have one on the hook and coming in. But there have been a couple times where vocals like pound town or even pup3 were ripping pretty good and I scan back to the caller to see a coyote with its face in the call. It had to be deafening! It’s scenarios like that where I start wondering if I’m overthinking things and trying to put too much human logic into a coyote’s way of thinking?

On every calling stand I make I have my Foxpro on full blast at least half the time. Most of the coyote vocals I play on full blast volume. I am calling against the wind or breeze most of the time.

Many of the coyotes I call in show up 3 to 5 minutes after hitting full blast volume. Many predators will get more excited if the sound is loud than they will if they can barley hear it.

We have killed lots of coyotes over the years while playing Lightning Jack, Jack Rabbit Distress and Coyote Pup Distress 3 on full blast volume 40 and these 3 sounds are some of the loudest sounds Foxpro has.

Many times the coyote or coyotes are not in a perfect location to hear your sounds at half volume. If nothing else go to full blast volume for 30 seconds to a minute after 10 minutes of calling on half volume. Then wait for about 5 minutes while calling at your normal half volume. I would say that at least 50% of the coyotes we call in and shoot are after playing the Foxpro on full Blast Volume.

I am on the bandwagon that they have to hear it to come to it.Start with vocals really loud, prey sounds about half volume going up and down and pup distress screaming

Ful blast. Trees, hills, & hollows here works for me. No matter the sound, I let them work for me. Some are loud at full blast some are not, Fusion with extra speaker.

X24...Very rarely over 20 to start most of the time.
I do vary the volume up to 25/30 depending on location situations such as road noise, big wooded areas, weather.

x24 i usually do my vocals on 15 to start on a quiet night, 20-25 on windy nights. Turning it upto 30+ just sounds ridiculous and people can hear it in their houses.

shockwave, i run on 35 regularly for vocals.. It doesnt have near the volume of the x24. Looking into the new x360 but im not sure that i want to carry around a 12 pound brick. I also have no use for the 2 decoys, and all of the extra crap they put on there to charge 1500 dollars

So there we have it. From 'I can hardly hear it' to 'Let it crank'! Just like everything else in this addiction, whatever floats your boat. :giggle:
Chris, I for one, cannot figure why anyone would want to carry that monster.
