XDM .40 vs Glock 22?

Am looking at purchasing my first handgun and am seriously leaning toward the XDM .40, but had an "expert" tell me that Glock 22 was a better way to go? Any recommendations? I am looking at getting an XDM .40 with trijicon sights and can purchase a new one for $606.00 (with the sights) through a military program...pretty tough to beat.

You're probably not going to get much of a concensus. There are die hards on both sides. The biggest thing people get into seems to be the grip angle of the Glock.

Glock they a proven, they have more aftermarket options I personally think the xdm fits the hand weird and don't like the safetys. Glock is cheaper also. Me personally I don't think night sites are an advantage in a self defense situation your not looking at sight and if your shooting at night it is most likely a self defense situation just an easy way to knock 100 dollars off the cost by not getting them. If you do go with glock I would look into the g23 you only loose 2 rounds in the mag and a little barrel length IMO its less of a pain to carry fits my hand better and is just as accurate.

Ive had both and either pistol will be good to go...If I had to pick between the 2 I would pick up the Glock...The Glock seems to point more narturally for me...I can dance around Coke cans in the yard with my Glock and not even use the sight...Night sights dont mean nothing to me...Good luck with your choice...

Personally, I'll always buy American before foreign if its a close choice between two items, (especially now days) that said I haven't shot a glock for a long time, as the old ones always choked on reloads so I had not bothered with one since. I'm not sure if they still do that or not any longer, I would think they would have fixed that by now.

I like the Glock myself. The XD is a good gun too, but they seem chunky too me. I have two 23`s and love them along with my 19.

I had an xd now I have a glock. I perfer the xd over the glock just because it fits the hand better. After some modifications to the handle I love my glock now. The xdm holds 16 in the mag. The glock shoots faster and is lighter. The glocks mags are more durable. The xds mags tend to bend when dropped. Like it was said you really need to find one that fits your hands.

Actually the XD formerly known as the HS2000 was made in croatia and marketed here by springfield.

The same way that most of our american glocks are coming out of Georgia

I like the XDm best. To qualify my statement I've shot nearly 10K rounds through Glock G-22's and G-23's over the years as department issue weapons. As a department firearms and tactics instructor and Glock certified armour I can get along with the Glock guns just fine. I'm not anti-Glock, but I've seen enough small parts breakages and malf's to know the Glock isn't as much "perfection" as they say it is. It is as good as any other high quality semi-auto service handgun - no better, no worse. I prefer the feel and features of the XDm over the Glock and it will be as reliable and probably more accurate. So, choose the one that feels best to you and go forth with confidence you have a good quality handgun whichever one you pick.

That actually is a good recommendation. Croatia is the cutting edge country in the Balkans, even compared to all of Europe. I was there earlier this year and was very impressed. As those long time members here know, I am not easily impressed.

I used to shoot an XD 4" but gave it up for a Glock 35. I just didnt get along with the trigger on the XD. My wife shoots an XD .40 5" and loves it. Its a personal thing. I went from XD to Glock but many others go the other way.

Jack- Not bashing the XD for its heritage, just stating that all designs and manufacturing by companies here in the US arnt as American as one might think.

I have Glock and XD. Two of each.

Glock is more popular, but XD holds it's own.

Just personal preference. Both hold up well to my heavy use and both are excellent. They feel different when you hold them so that might be the best way to decide. They are both excellent.

One thing that can matter is if you will shoot competition with it. The XD (in IDPA) pushes a person out of SSP where the Glock is SSP.

The only time I believe one is better than the other is in the sub-compact. The XD wins there (in my opinion). Better grip and more capacity (in 9mm they are 13+1 with the small mag)

Easy way to settle this! Handle both, shoot both if you can, pick the one that fits you the best, or which one you plain, like better. Both are great, I own the Glock 23 and absolutely love it. As a Firearms instructor I get the chance to shoot about everything out there so that is how I made my choice. Good hunting.

I have both, but in 9 mm and am selling the XDM and replacing it with another Glock. The XDM is a very good gun, but the trigger is not as crisp as the Glock, plus the reach to the trigger is just slightly greater by a very small amount, but it's enough that I tend to pull my shots a bit to the side unless I concentrate very hard. The XDM grip is also just enough longer that if you intend to CCW it, it is more difficult to conceal.

I was truthfully surprised to find myself liking the Glock better as I had bought the XDM first because I liked the feel of the grip better and liked the 19+1 capacity. What I found was that I really had difficulty shooting the XDM well. Even after hundreds of rounds of practice I was just inconsistent with the XDM. When I got the Glock I shot it well from the first magazine.

Another reason I like the Glock better is that you can pretty much do any gun smithing for repair or modification yourself, no need to send it away. Join the GSSF and you not only get a discount on another Glock, but you can go to the armorers school. I haven't been yet, but I'm going. Just like with 10/22's and AR's being able to do your own repairs and modifications is a very good thing in my book.

All that being said, the XDM is a very good gun, but for me the Glock works better.

ETA: Whichever you get, if there is a likelihood you'll be using it for self defense, get the night sights. Saving money there is false economy.
