Yellowstone Wardens

I like watching them on TV but sometimes I almost feel sorry for the wardens having to put up with stupid people. This episode the wardens put out a decoy cow elk. Its head moves right to left, that's it! A hunter (and I use the term loosely) stops his jeep, gets out, grabs his rifle out of the back, lays across the hood and shoots. Needless to say, he's busted. I'm thinking to myself, how many times have you see an elk or deer just stand there in the same spot and never moves? Very seldom. You would think that anyone in the know would wonder why this animal isn't moving. And why does it have a ring around its neck and legs? I don't know, maybe its excitement and the brain shuts off but it does make me wonder.

Here during the rut, whitetail bucks will stand and stare at you from 25-100 yards from the roadside if they have a doe pinned down in the soybeans or hay. It's a road hunters paradise , if you dare....

That said, just because they are "hunting" does not mean they are smart. I have a friend that works for the DNR. She has stories of stupid people, so stupid in fact , they seem fake !

Most that I've seen aren't totally motionless. Flick an ear, move their head, flip their tail. Enough to let you know they are alive. Decoys do nothing. Move their head right to left and thats it. I guess I notice little things like that.

They use decoys here with real deer hide, ears that twitch , moving tail ,etc..
Pretty though to tell I'm told.

I'm sure there are more realistic decoys than what they were using in the show tonite. It looked pretty fake and an experienced hunter should have figured it out pretty easily. The dozen bullet holes should have been a give away!!

HA... That's why always bring the truck to a complete stop. Check to see if the deer Pop's hot on the thermal. If it's Cold, Everyone in the truck scream heckle PoPo Slurs , tip their Beer's, and peddle to the metal, Burn Rubber.

I’m sure y’all heard about the guy that shot the bear decoy down here in Georgia?
A guy was hunting a WMA and saw a bear while driving. He didn’t stop but got a good enough look to realize it was a legal bear and far enough off the road to make a stalk.
He kept driving down the road and parked about 400yds away. He circled down in a bottom and came up below the bear and shot!
Things went crazy from there, lol. GW were freaking out and didn’t have a clue what was going on. They yelled, he yelled and he knew he’d been had. The only thing was, he was legal!
They were so upset they gave him two warning tickets, one for “improper” orange (claimed it wasn’t enough) and hunting from the road, even though he was well within the legal specified distance.
Being they were just warning tickets he didn’t pursue it in court but could’ve got those dismissed easily. The GW were just upset because they hadn’t fully thought of that scenario and things could’ve went bad (they weren’t wearing orange).
The guy honestly had no clue it was a decoy until he shot.

They should put a grouse in the road in WI you'd have a traffic jam.

Grouse hunting in n WI was a 22 rifle on the dash of your 53 Chevy and a case of Point Special in the back seat.

I watched a video recently of a game warden. He had a land owner complain of road hunters shooting deer on his property from the road. He demanded that something be done. So they came out and put up a decoy on his property. Along comes a truck. Sure enough truck stops. Rifle slides out the window and takes a shot. All the fish cops start yelling and coming out of the bushes. The man in the truck was the land owner that called and demanded they do something about the road hunters.

I have seen this scenario play out so many times over the years. Residents in a specific neighborhood or on a particular road complain about speeders and reckless drivers. I would then detail a traffic unit to spend some time working there. The vast majority of the warnings, tickets, and arrests made in the area were of people living there. Then they come in complaining they got a ticket!

A good friend of mine lives in this really ritzy HOA neighborhood. A bunch of people were complaining about all the speeding thru traffic so the city came in and put stop signs on all the intersections and speed bumps throughout. They then set up unmarked cars with radars and started ticketing people for speeding and running the stop signs. After a few weeks the HOA was complaining to the city police chief because the vast majority of tickets were to residents of the neighborhood.

Tell it to your state highway patrol or state police agency. To get your chance, drive about 25+ mph over the posted speed limit through a construction zone on the interstate. Don't worry, they will come to you and make a nice show of it on the way. They will initiate the safety conversation and even print out a nice reminder of how they feel about your driving skills and judgment. However, you will pay for the experience. They don't put on the show for free.
