Lots of talk about rim mags the last couple years. Fine and dandy but, I still like actually maybe even prefer a good ole' 22lr. Lots of customize stuff out there to play with. Some really fine high quality target rifles. Lever actions etc. 22lr rim shoots in most towns. Great "keep sake hand me down" rifles as everyone likes them. Nothing like putting a grin on a 12 year olds face by letting him plinks some cans in the back yard with a 22 for the first time. Varmints off hand. Coon hunting. Then there is Squirrel hunting. Probably the most under rated for enjoyment hunting there is .....Squirrel snipe'in with a 22lr while sit'in on a log in the woods. Don't get much better than that IMO.

So while the rim mags have taken the lime light the last couple years. Lets talk about favorite good ole 22lr. They are the rim fires used most in rim fire match's, Squirrel hunting, back yard plinking.

Whats your farorite 22lr rim fire?

or

Maybe your wish list favorite. One that you say "some day I would like to have one of those"

I couldn't agree with you more, Bill!
Mine is a 10/22 stainless carbine in a Deluxe walnut stock.
I've made a few other modifications outlined over at RimfireCentral.....

Mine is a henry lever action (no scope) I have had it for around 8 years. Probably has about 7000 rounds through it and still hits good. Its beat up and bruised but always ready.

I have always dearly loved the sweet little Browning .22 cal. auto that is a take down model that feeds the rounds in thru the butt stock and has bottom ejection.
They have always been the sweetest handling little rifles. Look great too. Mine was inherited from my father and he got it as a present on his 21st birthday back about 50 years ago.

Bill, That is gonna be a tough one. For back yard plinking and getting a new kid into shooting, I really like my old rem 550-1. It is an auto that will shoot short, long and long rifle, even intermixed and seldom jams. For serious practice time, preparing for a high power match, I like my Rem 521T. It has a lyman peep and blade front sight, has a military sling. When it comes to Squirrel hunting, My rem 541T with 2-7 scope. It will get the job done. I dont have any of the expensive 22's but have over a dozen of the plinkers and love every one. I grew up with a Winchester 67A. This post reminds me of the many days wandering the fields and woods around my dad's farm. Thanks for bringing it up. Randy

I actually have two. The first was my first. When I turned 18, in 1973, I bought my first rifle. A Winchester 9422. It is still in wonderful shape and wears a 4x Leupold compact. My second is a beautiful Rem 541-S that I bought used about 14 years ago at a gun show. That thing shoots like crazy and I now use it for rimfire silhouette. It currently has a Tasco 4x-16x, but for most of its life it wore a 4x Redfield, which was the first scope I ever bought. Neither of these is for sale, no way, now how. Almost anything else I have, make me an offer.

my favorite is a model 72 winchester my grandfather bought right after the war and it was the first rifle i ever fired. it is now 60 years old and shoots as good as it did in 1945.

Mine, ours Grandsons and myself, are our Romanian M69's. These babies will SHOOT your eye or the eye of gnat out. Found one several years ago and legacy'd for oldest Grandson (refinish, rebule and rework trigger all by Granddad) and it shot so unbelievably well got 5 more for the other Grandsons and spent 6 months gittin' 'em in shape. They all now have the same weapon, same scope and same super accurate shooter.

These things are no longer available and it makes it really neat that they have something that won't come again.

I had a very old Stevens 87-D. I gave it to my son (30's) a few years ago. I have a Kimber, but that Stevens had a special place in my heart.

Mine is a CZ 453 American wearing a Burris Compact 4-12x32 w/ AO & Target knobs. It comes with a single set trigger that is absolutely outstanding. I adjusted the trigger pull on mine to a 2 1/2 lb basic and a 12 Oz set.

She will definitely shoot!!! The white circles inside the black squares are 1/2" diameter. EDIT: Note that the target below was shot right out of the box after trigger adjustment. Those are 5 shot groups and was the first 50 rounds fired through this rifle.

I love the .22LR cartridge! I've owned a gozillion .22's over the years. I have six of the little rimfires now. Give me a crisp, late fall day, leaves turning colors and some falling to the ground. Squirrels are busy cutting hickories and acorns, scurrying through the tops and bouncing around on the forest floor. Of the rifles and handguns I have my old Marlin M39A with aperture sight will get hauled to the woods more often than any other.
