Youth rifles...

Is there any reason why a "youth" rifle would shoot any differently than a regular full-size gun of the same model and caliber/rate of twist, trigger, etc. accuracy-wise? I figure the shorter barrel might knock a few FPS off, but it should still shoot the same, right?

A shorter barrel won't make a rifle any less accurate. Unless the accuracy is related to a loss in velocity that would result in the shorter barrel. Some of the youth models that have shorter barrels, like some of the Rem 700's that have shorter barrels are actually a little more accurate in my experiences. Buy them a gun that fits and then find a load that shoots, don't worry about the barrel length.

Being short of stature I have a few youth rifles that I've bought formyself, it's easier than cutting off the stock. They work great.

That's what I'm thinking about. The gun is for me, and it just feels like it's alot easier to handle and balance than other rifles of normal size. Maybe I'll try it...thanks for the quick replys /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinning-smiley-003.gif

I gave one to my girlfriend this year for her first deer hunt. It is a Remington 700 SPS Youth. The caliber is .243, and she is deathly accurate with it. I don't mind shooting it as well, since it is so short and handy. I put a Leupold 2x7 compact on it, and she would fight you if you said it was a kid's gun where she could hear you. I wish they made the same rifle in .223.........

If it fits correctly, the accuracy is an intrinsic value like any other rifle. Barrel length has little to do with accuracy other then the 25-50 FPS per inch of barrel you may lose. But that is also pretty much load specific. I have seen some loadings in the smaller calibers that do as well and somtimes even better in a short barrel than in a longer one

Actually, a shorter barrel "might" just be more accurate because the shorter barrel is stiffer, heats up slower, and is less "whippy" than a longer skinny tube.
