Zero distance

how far were they actually shooting after the 36 yard zero. i dont think they ever said, or was the whole video spent zeroing the rifle at 36 yards

There are 25, 36, 50, and 100-yard sight-in theories for sighting in an AR-15. Most of those have been worked out with 55 gr. bullets. So, while the idea of those sight-in distances is good, unless you do the work with whatever load you are shooting, it would all be guesswork.

I'll pass... I'm sold on the 50 yard zero... minimal height over bore concerns under 50 yards and point and click capability out to about 225 yards. That's why the 50 yard zero is extremely popular. From 1 yard to about 20, just aim 2" high. That's why we run "Dot Drills", to build memory for sight offset at CQB range. In my opinion the 50 yard zero is more practical for citizens who might be pressed into a SD situation.

With a 36 yard zero the bullet path rises pretty rapidly and it perhaps 9" or so high at 100 yards.

The military zero is not a bad thing especially for people who don't shoot a lot... many cops and military folks are not "shooters" per se and a Battlesight Zero means point and click from 1 yard to 300 yards w/o regard for bullet drop... you will hit a torso... not a bad thing for a combat environment where you might engage targets from 1 yard to 500 yards.

I will also pass. For my coyote, deer and ground squirrel bolt action hunting rifles. My coyote and ground squirrel rifles are sighted in at 1" high at 100 yards. I don't shoot a very many squirrels or coyotes past 200 yards away.

My deer rifles are sighted in to be about 3" high at 100 yards.

For all of my rifles that will effectively kill out past 300 yards (220 Swift, 243 Win, 7mmRUM for example), I put CDS dials on all of those Leupold scopes. I have them dialed in for a 300 yard zero. Everything else like my 17 Rem and 222 Rem I dial those in at a 100 yard zero as their effective killing distance is 300 yards or less.

Some people will do anything to post a video.
Gotta get them views...

The easiest thing is to get a decent chrono reading and use a calculator to determine a rough MPBR and go confirm it.
I use to Zero my 22-250 at 35 yards with 53gr Noslers for a MPBR out to 430 yards on deer when was doing a bunch of depredation shoots.

MPBR is much greater on human targets than a coyote. I set my call about 36 yards out and try to stop them for a shot at double that. 36 yard zero I’d be shooting over many backs. Not to mention hunters aim for vitals and not center mass like human targets with a battle zero.

I zero my two fiddy 1.75 high @100 and still hold on fur over 300.
