My dad had one in Korea and the actions in the Formosa/Taiwan Straits. He liked the Carbine. Dad had one on the farm as his knock-around ranch rifle and home defense long gun. We shot thousands of 110 gr. ball ammo plinking and kept Remington Peters 110 gr. soft points for serious stuff. Dad could shoot and coyotes, foxes, groundhogs, skunks, possums, feral dogs and cats were in serious trouble if Dad caught them messing around where they shouldn't be messing. With some of the modern perked-up loads, the M1 Carbine could make a darn fine home defense/small ranch rifle.
