In all likelihood this is the last coyote my mentor and hunting buddy the last 12 years will shoot on a calling stand. His eyesight has been fading for years and now Parkinsons has taken hold. This year for the first time he said he just doesnt think he can go at all. Not great photography skills on my part but of all my coyote photos this one grabs my attention every time because I remember this stand 3 or 4 years ago like yesterday and know the significance of closing out a lifetime of hunting.

That one is special. Very special.

Here's mine. It's the last hunt my Dad ever made. And he and I both knew it was the last one. Cancer was beating down his door. It was a Thanksgiving morning. Me and Dad told all the ladies of the family (which outnumbered us a dozen to two and now outnumber me a dozen to one), that we were going to go kill a coyote before dinner was ready. And by gawd, we did.

Wow Dave, that's incredible. Cancer got my Dad also, not a fun way to watch someone go. About a year before I met the guy in the photo. Sorry for the sidetrack Skinney!

This posts are just stirring up this hunting season and its a good and bad thing...My other half and i both drew for deer here in NM so when we went up it was my dad, her and myself...Well my dad is 81 and is barely getting around but will kill himself to get into the mountains..i know i am very limited on any more hunting trips with him..the man has had a quadruple heart bypass and doesn't take care of himself at all.I have him on borrowed time....As for my other half she has had a terrible year...last jan we found out she has an brain tumor that they cannot get to(and told her she has 2 years..hope they are wrong) and diagnosed with MS..talk about being double wammied..then..few months later the found cancer and started her on chemo...so for 9 months before the hunt we have been dealing with all the appts, treatments, etc..she can barely function...I am her daily cheerleader to keep giving her the will to keep fighting...so when we got the dates of the hunt she was second guessing even going but i pushed her thru it so she could have a positive mixed in with all the negatives we have been dealing with. Well the day before the hunt starts she gets a turkey..just to see her excitement was memorable. Then day one of the hunt at roughly 5pm i get my bambi...I asked my dad to take a pic with me and he didnt want to but i reminded him it is for my memories. when we were driving back my other half kept telling me she was glad i bagged out and lets go home...she was in pain and was not having a good time. Well that night i said no problem but was able to get her to stick it out a little more because i know how much she loves it in the mountains. well around noon she got her 8 pointer...i was SOOOOOO damn excited for her...she is going thru so much...everyday is a fight for her and she is only 25...so every where i go i tell everyone that will listen she got the big one and then i get reprimanded for killing bambi :) meat is meat!!
