Those of you thinking about a Garmin Chrono

I was shocked... quite shocked.
 
I will run my magneto speed until it quits I believe now.
As mentioned the spacers can cause grief, along with getting sensitivity settings set up.
As to lead bullets. Have shot a bunch of cast bullets over mine with zero issues, .224-.458 and a bunch in between.

Playing with 22RF I did find I had my best luck when getting as close to the bayonet as possible. I just use a brass range rod. I do t think the tuner on yours did you any favors. I take mine off.

Just for fun it would be interesting to see how consistent two different Garmin units running side by side would read velocity. They sure seem like a pretty good piece so I'd imagine they'd be real close.

Side note, everyone complains about how bad the 17 WSM ammo is but did anyone notice the 17 HMR had the typical ES of hundreds of FPS while the ES of the 17 WSM stuff Greg shot was well under 20 FPS. Long live the 17 WSM :)

I believe some guys over on Rokslide did run two side by side and they were within 2-4 fps of each other.

A friend showed me one of the new Garmins a couple weeks ago at the range. I was shooting my new 17 Rem wildcat with 25gr Hornady HP;s. working up a load and fireforming. To say I was impressed would be an understatement. Not happy with the price though.
 
I noticed now that the holiday discounts are over at Cabelas, they mysteriously have them in stock now......
 
My god! I bet the barrel life Is a couple hundred rounds with the 20 Primal at max. I’d probably burn a barrel out ladder testing it just to find a load! 😂 That’s gotta make one tsunami title wave of a splash on a coyote!!!

I can’t believe someone hasn’t made a 17 Primal at 6500 fps yet.
 
For the guys that have or are using the Garmin or even the labradars. What are you guys imputing for chronograph distance in your ballistics apps? My guess would be 0 yards/inches since it’s likely sitting next to the gun but is that exactly right if it’s behind the barrel a bit.

I know with my magnetospeed I would input 6inches for the distance and that always seemed to be spot on.

Just curious what others are doing before I start using mine this week.
