Shotgun-BEST shot size for FOX & your preferred CHOKE

20 gauge, 3", IC choke. Older Remington 870 Special Field. Not ideal, but it's what I've got. A fox has been after my chickens.

Shot size: 2 Buck or #2 shot?

For grey fox I use a 12 gauge with #4 buck and a Carlsons Coyote Choke or Hornady Heavy Magnum Coyote Nickle Plated BB and a Modified choke. Both these loads/ choke combinations have taken a lot of grey fox for me. I highly recommend plated shot.

The 20 gauge is a hard one to feed for predator hunting. Unless you can break the wallet open and get custom-loaded TSS shells at $5-$10 a pop. For a fox in the hen house, a 3" turkey load of #4 or #5 lead shot will work if you keep the range within 30 yards. Your biggest issue is the Improved Cylinder choke. It is hard to throw a concentrated hot spot of shot from that open choke.
