This seasons callers

I'm going into this season with the same as I finished last year with, FP Patriot, original FP CS-24 and my Wildlife Technology. Broke my last Minaska, speaker came loose.

I'm really liking the little Patriot, I think it will see a lot of use this year. What will be your go-to this year?

I will be sticking with my Shockwave. I went down the caller rabbit hole a few years ago. After trying multiple callers I discovered that it was more technique and experience than equipment that equated to success.

Tried the following:

Primos Alpha Dogg :pros best responding remote that worked without line of sight and cool functions, cons sound distortion at high volumes, cumbersome legs. Gifted to a friend (best overall for the money) should have kept this one and settled, hindsight is 20/20.

Fp wildfire: pros love the small size, cons short battery life, terrible remote.

Js Grimm speaker 2: Cheap and got the job done. Nothing exceptional. Gifted to a friend

Flextone flx500: new in box never used

Flextone flx50 handheld: good for roadside locating. Gifted to a friend

Fp Shockwave: pros: foxpro customer support, tx1000 baro sensor, moon phase, Great sound and uses same batteries in remote and caller. Cons: large size that is cumbersome to carry long distances and speaker angle has to be setup on each stand, floppy speakers that are noisey to put in transport position, line of sight remote that sometimes needs several attempts on buttons to get a response. Probably should have bought the fusion for smaller form factor?

A modified patriot with a tx1000 remote with non line of sight and twice the batteries would be my dream caller. Or possibly I could get a hellcat and grind/chop off all the sharp edges that will collect dirt and snow.
Maybe I should find an old Primos turbo Dogg? Try an icotec hellion+?

Basically what I am trying to say is no caller is perfect and you can spent fortunes chasing a dream. Find one that works and stick with it or clever marketing will get all of your money.

I need a friend like you. I have an older Alpha Dogg. They sound a lot better with quality lithium batteries.

This year I've mainly been using the x24.

Pros - size, volume, easy to set up, remote works well, built in battery, MFK sounds.

Cons - very directional call, one of the most complicated when it comes to loading new sounds, just a small amount of water will kill it.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but here in SC MFK sounds are THAT good when compared to most other sounds.

Foxpro x2s for my main e-caller and my Foxpro Fusion as a backup. A few different hand calls here and there just because, and some diaphragms.

Foxpro Wilfire 2 and 2 icotec 300s. I'm calling bears with one of the icotecs as I'm typing. lol

Bugs are eating me alive!
Probably should buy a high dollar call but I'm not sure it matters that much?

I use mouth calls to reach out at times.

I bounce around around a lot due to the amount of calling contest out my way. I can’t stand contest callers only because of my job. My favorite caller is lucky duck then icotec. I really dislike fox pro due to a complete horrible experience. That Freq call I’m not truly sold on either. Really haven’t noticed any difference in the way critters respond to it. So I’m not sure I buy into that theory either of different frequencies. I have killed yotes on them all so everything works when you tell them what they want to hear.

I’ve had 2 FP Wildfire 2, Primos Turbo Dogg, JS unsure of model, but took the sound cards, and now an IcoTec Sabre…problems with both Fox Pros, zero problems with the Turbo Dogg other than sound distortion at high volume, the JS was horrible and haven’t used the IcoTec in the field yet but so far like it a lot.

Haha, still new to the game, but I don’t get rid of anything until it’s dead. I have the Outlaw+ and will probably still be using it 10yrs from now. If something works, why change it?

Night stalker + and fusion backup. Most single howls are done with MFK Blackout and a horn or a 'critter caller' and I frequently use a "Crack" rabbit and bite reed.

Just color me dinosaur. Started out w/a Loudmouth, which is at rest somewhere in the closet. FX3 for twenty some years, but it is upgraded to FX5:D. Only complaint is remote: Need trifocals to read display and it could use a bit more range, but it works!

so everything works when you tell them what they want to hear
Amen

Anyone waiting to try the new FP X360?

Last I heard they’re asking $1,500 bucks and its large.

I still want one though. Stupid Foxpro coolaid.

Not even a little bit of interest. At $1500 and 10lbs it’s just too much $ and too much weight. No issues with my current callers getting the job done.

I think they're going to have trouble moving those x360s. Too big and heavy has killed other callers. Anyone remember the Primos "Boss Dogg"?

I'll also say I don't "get" the x48. -- It appears to be an x24 that can play 2 sounds at once (does anyone even do that?) and a (long overdue) upgraded remote for damn near twice what the x24 costs.
At least initially, I've seen prices around $900. -- Maybe that was just a guess that will change when they launch, but to me, from the specs I've seen, they would need to be only slightly more than an x24 to sell.

How does your Lucky Duck compare to your X24?
The LD Super Revolt has some great proprietary sounds. If I could put those sounds on a FP I wouldn't have a LD. Adding sounds and managing folders is much easier on the LD and the rotational feature is nice sometimes but overall the caller feels of lower quality versus FP, in my opinion. The X24 has all the pros you mentioned above plus the ability to create FOXCAST sequence files and the ability to play sounds in single play mode. I like to play howls on single play mode so I don't accidentally mute in the middle of a howl. I add new sounds to my X24 frequently so I'm used to their current sound management software. Per the recent FP podcast, the X360 and X48 are supposed to have an updated sound management software/app and an improved sequence file feature called FOXPILOT. The LD Super Revolt can play two sounds at once and I used to have a FP X2S that could also but I never felt comfortable doing that in the field...too much button pushing. The X48 will be able to play two sounds at once too so I'm hoping it can be programmed in a FOXPILOT sequence.

Both my old Fusion and X2s have the 2 sound capability… Fox Fusion. I have used it on occasion and it does add another level of trickery but I find it kind of a pain to use.

If I understood the latest Foxpro Podcast correctly, they have made that feature a little easier to use. It isn’t enough of a feature to make me run out and buy a new caller anytime soon.

I think the x48 is supposed to run 48bit sounds?

Some IcoTec and Lucky Duck calls play two sounds at the same time.
Up to 32 bit sounds, per the podcast. I don't really understand all of the sound bit stuff but most of my sounds are 24 bit so I'm not sure there will be any difference. They said the X48 got its name because it was originally going to play two 24 bit sounds at the same time.

Right, which makes me say "meh".
I like that the remote can now do sub-categories (like it should have to begin with because it's not 1997) and some other improvements, but I could care less about a scale. I just don't see many substantial improvements over the x24.
