Meet up with Venatic for a couple nights of calling. Hunter Friday night, a little during the day Saturday and again Saturday night.
Friday night was a little slow, but ended up with one coyote, 4 coons and David got 2 bobcats. My rifle misfired one the coyote but David took him out.
We did a little Saturday with no luck, grabbed about 3 hours of sleep and started back about 5:30. We got 2 stands before dark work no luck, but first stand after dark called in another cat on David’s side. I guess his bullet hit some brush because he missed a close one.
About midnight we called in cats on 3 stands in a row. The first came slipping in and got him.
Next stand we had a big Tom come running in from a long ways. When I saw him coming I glanced David’s way because I figured he saw him first since the way he came from he was blocked for me part of the way. When I saw he was looking thru his thermal scope I waited, watching the cat thru my own scope.
The car ran right up to the caller and then spooked back the way he came and stopped to look back. I decided David either didn’t see him or had a problem and shot him. Turns out he had his thermal zoomed in and he never saw him because he was looking over him, or trying to operate the scope controls.
This cat was 26.34 pounds on my scale.
We went around the corner to another spot and when we got out of the truck to set up a realized I had left my sticks at the last stands when I was messing with the cat. I left David to make a stand while I drove back over to get my sticks. I weighed the cat while I was waiting for him to make a stand and then drove back to where I had dropped him. I killed the truck and stepped out. I could hear the caller up ahead and around the bend in the road. About that time and heard a suppressed shot and David had the 3 rd cat do the night.
We called some more good looking spots but only got a couple of coons, and we never saw a coyote the whole night.
Our pile for the hunt.
