Baiting

Good job on those two, lowball. You are right about the cameras. I especially like the cell cams. They help me to plan better without having to go to the farm every day to pull SD cards.

JM, I got lucky with the shot and trail camera. And actually I got another one like that recently. I didn’t add it to the video, but should have. I plan to do a collection video of all the Bolt and 25-06 kills so maybe I can work that in.

Yeah, cameras capture a lot of interesting things. Over the years my cameras have captured video of such things as a coyote treeing a bobcat, a possum running a red fox off, a nightly feud between a possum and skunk, a bobcat chasing a grey fox, a bear climbing a feeder and falling, some nice bucks sparing and a gray fox chasing another gray fox to mention a few. It has been interesting to see wildlife behavior.

Don, that’s like catching a double when trapping. One set on one side of the road and another set maybe 15ft away on the opposite side.
I’ve always wondered who got caught first. I tend to think it was the coyote and the bobcat came by to rub it in and gets caught, lol. It happens more for me like that than a coyote double.

Here is a compiled video of 12 of 13 kills with the new Infiray Bolt TL-35 thermal scope, and Weatherby Vanguard 25-06. I did not get one kill on video. I also wounded one that ran off and not recovered. In addition, I killed three other coyotes in early season with different rifles / scopes for a total of 16 for my season from August through March.

22mag, thanks for your kind words. This has been my best season since I began baiting in 2011. The 25-06 is way more cartridge than I need, but it has been a real pleasure to use this season, and the Blitz Kings speak for themselves. The Bolt thermal has provided a very good image with the exception of one time (#8 in the video) that wasn’t as good for some reason.

Here is a compilation of a few trail camera videos. Thanks to NewYorkHillbilly for informing me about the Mediase trail cameras. I really like them. The microphone is very sensitive, which is great unless there is strong wind. You can hear the coyotes chewing on the carcass.

These three coyotes were the last ones I got at the end of my season. The last one was the infamous Tripod.

Finally! I killed this double on the bait pile last night. That only makes a total of 5 for the year on the bait. First one was the female at 178 yds. and a little later the male at 168 yds. I was shooting my 22-250 with a 50 gr. V-max. Both of them were heart shot and blew their hearts out. Unfortunately, I managed to foul up getting video of either kill. Not sure how that happened but it did. They aren't very pretty either. One has a touch of mange and the other one doesn't look much better. That time of year I reckon as they lose those winter coats. But at least it's 2 dead coyotes.

Well Owen, it is not often that you don't get video, so I am going to chalk it up to you being excited that they are coming back to your bait pile :giggle: . I hope more are to come.
