Went this fill feeders on Friday and then when I checked my cell camera Tuesday afternoon I see this:
Had these feeders in the same spot for over 10 years and never had a problem. Then this boar learned how to take down feeders. This one is pretty heady duty and didn’t think it could be messed. He took down my other one on the other side of the stand the week before, but it was empty and didn’t take it all the way to the ground. This one I just filled up Friday and took it down a few nights later.
So, this morning I went to settle the score since I see they have set up camp on my downed feeder. I cared the Bergara B-14 wildnerness ridge in 300 WM to womp him.
I checked my cell camera at 4:30 this morning and he was there. When I got to the lease I had no signal so didn’t know if he was still around. As it was getting light I studied the down feeder with the binos, but the feeder was laying in a low spot and tall grass was blocking my view, but thought I saw a dark shape that looked like a hog, but after 5 minutes it didn’t seem to move. As it got more I light I kept looking with scope and binos. Liked like a hog, thought I could make out an ear, but no movement.
I kept watching with the binoculars, and then I saw the barrel move! Then I saw him some ever so slightly. I could only see the top of his back down about 6 inches and the ear. I but the crosshairs below the ear and Womp!
I weighed him on my didgital scales at 221 point something, and then I took a heart girth measurement- 42 inches, 41 1/2 if I really pulled it tight. Then I checked the heart girth chart on my phone. 42 inches on the chart is 221 pounds. I couldn’t believe it was that close. I have found the method to be pretty close in the past, but it was spot on for this one.
Brought the barrel home to get in back in shape, reattach solar charger, adjust timer box and dropped the top piece off at the welding shop to get it straightened and beefed up a little. All the feeder legs will be staked with t posts from now on!
