They've had 6ARC for a long time, super super easy to run it through a sIzer one time and viola its a 22ARC!
Well good news is Starline offers both with the correct headstamps and lengths without reforming. Which was the purpose of the post.
Basically just information for those whom are needing 22 ARC brass sourcing.
(but yeah I think I've heard that sizing 6mm ARC down was short.. IDK, don't own either. but fact is its available from Starline if someone desires it in 22 or 6mm, and probably Hornady too IDK)
You would think that would work, but not in this case. They've had 6ARC for a long time, super super easy to run it through a sIzer one time and viola its a 22ARC!
Correct. The 6mm ARC is not just a necked-down 6.5 Grendel, whereas the 22 ARC is. On the 6, the shoulder is pushed back, I believe around .02 or .03 to accommodate the super long 6mm bullets.Have you tried that? Everything I've read says 6 ARC brass is too short and it's best to use 6.5G brass... I've not tried either one.

My brother made this assumption and necked down 6 ARC to 22. He had excessive headspace and the associated problems like some rounds that wouldn't fire.
I've necked down 6.5 Grendel brass to 22 ARC, and that works just fine.
The .224 bullets don't need the amount of set back for length the 6mm bullets need. But .030" is more than I'd want to push the shoulder forward on a fire form... You can use a Grendel S die with a bushing on 22 ARC, but not so much with the 6 ARC. As a side point, I'd stay away from RCBS small base Arc dies. I as well as many others have ran into them making a "belt" on resizing grendel brass to 6 arc.Didn't realize the shoulder length was different between the two, seems like a dumb move for them to be different , .02-.03 ain't very much!
I have a 22 Nosler White Oak and really like it but it's hard on primer pockets. I drug my feet on the Hagar brass and now it's to late. I think a 22 ARC with 52 grain or 40 grain Nosler ballistic tips would get the velocity of the 22 Nosler but have the case head to hold the primer pocket together. If I was looking to shoot light bullets I would skip the ARC and get a White Oak 22 Nosler 12 twist barrel. We killed a pile of coyote with 33 cfe223 and 55 ballistic tips.
