Tripod Setup

I can honestly say that I had never thought about such a technique. I may need to give that a try. It's more of a modified Bipod technique in my opinion, but it does look to be a very stable platform.

Never could figure out what to do with that 3rd leg for sitting position. That's why I always used a bipod. Guess its true what they say about "two heads is better than one."

I am thinking it might be 'iffy' in my terrain though.
1st thing I thought of as well. So many times I set up on fence rows that are all grown up with grass & weeds making it damn near impossible to move the tripod around. As long as I have a good back drop, like standing corn, I think a guy is better off standing with the tripod & be able to cover 180 degrees or more.

A stable platform is nice, but for most distances, especially at night, I'm plenty happy with minute of coyote holds.

I always just have 2 legs in front and the third between my legs when sitting. I don’t like a tripod for sitting in the daytime in the first place but it’s not to bad as long as your on flat ground. Was out in New Mexico today in the sand dunes and the old school shooting sticks shined. A tripod would have been a train wreck. Some stands do not call for any shooting aid at all.

I can't get on the ground like that any longer without paying a hefty price, had hip surgery and the other hips giving me problems. I use a swivel stool or swivel chair and so far this has worked well for me... still need more time with it though

I started using one of these this year when I'm not standing, so much easier to get up & down in.

I did take the backrest off, didn't need that getting in the way.

Tried it today for 3 clips (30 shots)-no good at all in my hills and off my 3 adjustable legged swivel seat. Thanks for the tip just the same.

leg on the uphill side for me is always the shortest and I swivel the pan if I need to reposition to keep it on the high side. Most times that will be the only leg that will need adjusted if I need to change the elevation of the gun,

In my AO, sitting on a stool or higher seat = BUSTED! I use a turkey seat with about 2" legs. Keeps my butt dry in the snow, mostly, and out of the goats heads in the dry. But keeps me low. Standing up or sitting up higher would be awesome, except most coyotes would spot me from at least a quarter mile out. Even in the really thick stuff with a shotgun, I've tried a three legged stool to get better visibility. I get better visibility alright, me being more visible that is.

Daytime, of course. I sleep at night :ROFLMAO: .

Unfortunately, at my age, I hafta sit on a chair or stool; if I sat on the ground would have to call for a winch truck to get me up. Fortunately, stuff grows down here so can always snuggle up in the bushes. I like a kid's camp chair, just a tad low, but I could still get up (last time I tried) and the low back adds a third point of contact w/elbows on knees. Grasping sticks and rifle sling and pulling rifle into the shoulder essentially makes the sticks part of the rifle; makes it as easy to lift & shift for windage as easily as bipod and much more mobile.

I've grown to like shooting off of tripods and it's pretty awesome for my teenage girl for practice and deer hunting, but daytime calling sitting on side hills with no cover except whatever grass is there and maybe a yucca calls for sticks or maybe a bipod. That is a cool trick though that I'm going to give some thought.
