Well my buddy and I had one hell of a weekend with eight dogs dropped and seven recovered.
Five on Sat at two locations and three Sunday at one location we hadn't seen but heard dog's at.
A personal best.
The eighth dog was camera shy and drug itself into Multiflora thorn bushes.
We didn't expect this type of hunting with the way this season started off, but we'll take what comes our way.
All the dogs were in good shape and the solo male dog taken Sat was 51 pounds.

Excellent, Shoots! That is awesome to hear. I felt like this was going to be a good weekend.

A bit of a black cloud has again hovered over me and I have found myself taking a 10 day round of antiviral medication for shingles!

Against my better judgement, my doctor’s recommendation, and my wife’s threats, I went out for one set at 8:00 pm Sunday evening. I got a group going and made some progress getting them closer, I just couldn’t seal the deal and get them in. Howls and long pauses brought them from a good distance. MFK Submissive Beggar and Girl Fight really got them worked up and close. Never saw them and the wind had switched from NW to straight North which went from a crosswind that would give them a little something, to blowing right from them to me. With no way for them to circle I guess they didn’t want to risk it? Standing out there just got a bit unbearable after an hour and a half and I threw in the towel.

Glad you guys got into them heavy. 51 lbs is a hog buddy. Congrats on just that! But all around, excellent work.

All of my pain goes away once I hear a coyote answer or see one coming in.
The first weekends of the fall season are scouting missions to get a feel for the numbers that are out there and the times we need to be out there.
Some are early spots, some late.
We came up with a game plan and it worked out.
The large dog didn't look big when it was coming in, but I knew it was a brute when I lit it up with the flashlight.
I would've let it come in closer if I knew it was so big !
I think it weighed more than 51 lbs, but that's what the digital scale read before the battery died.
It was the last stand of a great night, we were beat and had a long walk back to the truck to get the spare battery so it is what it is.
