Ground Hunting Setup?

So how do y’all set up when hunting?

Mainly I’m curious about seating — because let’s be honest, sitting on the ground for an hour or more just plain sucks. What kind of seats or pads do y’all use to stay comfortable out there?
And if you want to drop your whole setup — like tripod, gun, pack, etc. — feel free! I’m always interested in seeing how other folks run their setups.

I use a folding chair backpack setup it is adjustable for height from real low to about 10-14" off the ground, and a quick detach swagger bipod. It has a storage area that I carry my call and gear in. I used it deer hunting last year and I can sit comfortably for a pretty good while. It is a pretty good setup for covering an open section of ground but not real good if I have to cover a 360 degree area cause your kinda locked in because of the back rest.
My first deal was a swivel bucket but found it kinda loud, getting around and moving.

I've been using a cheap, closed- foam pad for decades. Think of a garden-type kneeler.

They help keep my butt warm, dry and cactus free.

If we fidget on stand, we will be spotted, and the pad makes it easier to sit still.

I use a three leg stool with extenders cross sticks, everything is carried in a back scabbard and I can deploy caller and decoy without having to dig out or take off the scabbard. If I'm in rocky country I will clip a foam bead seat that deer hunters use, warm on the butt, cushiony and silent, most come in camo and orange but you can find them in camo and black for stealth.

At night I’m standing or sitting on a 3 leg stool behind my tripod.

Day sits I prefer to be lower so the Sly Dog Ground and Pound is my preferred seat. I generally just shoot of my knees.

Day sits in heavy cover I may use the 3 leg stool. I’ll shoot off my Swagger Bipod in this scenario.

Night it is a 3 leg adjustable swivel seat. Day it is a Les Johnson seat-resembles a stadium seat and is super comfy/supportive for this old back.

I mean this with all due respect. It is not a criticism or a smart assed response. Start stretching. Do it every single day. I stretch each morning for 30 minutes. Put in some headphones and listen to music or a podcast. I'm 63 years old and I can do the splits. It will improve your life way beyond just sitting during coyote hunting.

I had back issues. Stretching fixed them. I wasn't flexible when I started. It's easy and it will improve your shooting and your discipline.

This rolls up to the size of a soda can and fits in one of the water bottle holders on the side of my Mystery Ranch Pop-Up pack. It keeps my rear end off of cold, wet ground. I hunt in the big woods, so I put the seat at the base of a tree wider than my shoulders and can rest my back against the tree. Pull a knee up, and the rifle rests on top of that and is solid for a shooting platform.

I checked that out, pretty neat idea.
My problem is if I go ALL the way to the ground I don't hop up like I did when I was younger lol. I figured out that keeping my butt about 1 foot off the ground I can pop right up quickly and quietly if needed.

I have an older fellow I occasionally take hunting. He told me that whenever he plans on sitting down, he had better have a plan on getting back up! I looked around and found this Low Down Hunting Seat. He has used it for a couple of years now and loves it.

Know well your problem. Used Academy kid's camp chair into my late 80's for that very reason. No winch trucks available on call in the ranch country ;). 4 legs have never dumped me due to gopher holes like the three legged stools have. Clamped an elbow rest to the short back for a bit more shooting stability; folds to about 4-5" diameter for hand carry; even clip an M1 Garand web sling on for longer walks. Easy up but short enough to use legs for elbow support off sticks.

That is a great idea anywhere there are trees. Love the ability to traverse as necessary. Unfortunately, the way mesquite grows down here places you could find a tree to hang it on are very limited. Trunks seldom vertical & lower limbs are usually low on mesquite with lots of thorny underbrush tight around the trunks, but that would be really great in forest country!

I used nothing but a stadium seats for years, I have one from Gander & another from Cabelas that's a bit larger.

A couple years ago I experimented with a short 4 legged chair that was 12x12x12, hated it. Too low & too hard to get & out of, so I tried the taller 3 legged chair. Height was great, but the seat area was too damn small & hard on Big Jim & the Twins.

So this year I've been using a chair similar to what Wally World sells. I removed the backrest portion, and throw a small piece of indoor/outdoor carpet in the pack to soften the seat. Perfect height & getting up & down is a breeze now.
