1st stand was for a neighbor who contacted me saying that something was killing his ducks. We went there expecting to kill a fox but at about 15 minutes a racoon came in. We normally don't shoot them but in this case we did.
Next stand in a fresh cut bean field I howled and a pack lit up across and down the road maybe 1/2 mile. We moved and the pack and a single answered again but the pack was a little too far to come. At about 12 minutes this big male came in alone. He stopped at about 100 +- yds, DRT. 41.7lbs.
Next stand we had two coyotes come straight in but for whatever reason they stopped about 250 yds out and sat down. My buddy shot and I heard the thump but both ran off back over the knoll towards the cutover and the one he shot at ran like it had a lot of gas left so we did not make the long hike to look for it. On the way back to the truck we heard a pack across the road on another farm so we moved on them. I set the call out and when I got back to my buddy he said that there was a coyote in the field. I turned on Vole Squeaks and it came straight in and stopped at about 100+- yds. Female, DRT. I howled and the pack answered and in about 8 minutes 3 came out but they stopped at about 500-600 yds. Another coyote was barking at them from inside the wood line and they milled around for a while then went back to the barking coyote. We did not get a shot at them. All total we saw 7 coyotes tonight, they were definitely moving tonight but my buddy has to work tomorrow so we quit. I still cannot carry a rifle so we are limited to whatever one shooter can do.
