Baiting

Out tonight in a new pop-up blind. Going to drop to-5. I saw a coyote about 500 yards from the bait this morning,8:30. Toe warmers heated vest. Have a sneezing, running nose we will see how this works. Here's my view, bait in the circle.

Bait is SW of the blind about 150 yards wind was WNW. 5 came in 6:30. Not ideal when whole family group arrives together. I took a shot at one to the side away from the bait. Missed. I had an earlier miss this year with this rifle. I think the issue is the switch barrel action(aluminum) is unstable in cold temps. Went home and I already mounted a rail on a custom barreled M700 22-250. Will sight in tomorrow if I don't get any sicker. Not used to missing.

Set looks good, rifle not so much. Iron the wrinkles out and get back out there. We are waiting for the results! (y)

Take care out there, Spot. Don’t want that cold to develop into pneumonia.

Last night I got a single cell cam photo of a coyote at the bait. He didn’t stay long, just enough for one photo. If this is the same coyote, he has been darn difficult. He will make one quick visit and then be gone until who knows when. He keeps pulling one-night-stands, and also frequents a ridge about 200-250 yards from the bait. Makes me wonder if he got educated to the bait somewhere along the way.

Last night I went out. Earlier I put the scope back on the AR 223. I have had zero retention issues. 2 came in to bait. I hit one, it ran off with what to me appeared to be a gut shot ? WTH. Stopped broadside at what I paced off to be 280 steps. Zoomed in and dropped it. I waited about an hour and I believe had a return by the second, a miss at the bait.WTH. I tried to run the WIFI last night, phone and scope showed connected (strong signal) but APP issues? Disgusted I retrieved and packed up headed home.
Wasn't there long as a Facebook alert popped, child missing(7yo female) about 30 miles away. Searchers needed. So I grabbed my pack, more batteries, water and headed out. A bunch of us were assembled, teamed up in the school gym. At midnight LE wanted a walking search conducted in a patch of woods where they found boot tracks entering, but not leaving. Part way thru the search(1am) word was sent child was found. Got home about 2am. Today I have to check zero, again.

I can relate, a few times I've had misses and when checking zero on a paper target the next day found the gun to be dead nuts. We all pull one now and then, at least I do.
Kudos to you for giving your time to go out in the cold for the community.
Hope you get it figured out.
