DIY coyote hunting expedition

I am located on the east coast, Maryland to be specific. I would like to try coyote hunting in Nebraska, or the Dakotas. Are there public lands available to hunt? I would like to save some money and avoid paying high costs for guides, etc. I would appreciate any information. Back here, you need to have private land as DNR takes a dim view of hunting outside of usual deer season. Plus there is not a lot of space and few coyotes in general. Thanks for your input.

Try the respective DNR sites or call them fi no one chimes in. I have always started there when I used to out of state bow and turkey hunt and got lots of good info.

Never done it for coyotes, but I always call DNR about turkeys and have literally had them tell me what spot to start out in after I told them of what I’d e-scouted.
I’m sure they’d do the same for predators.

Out of state Nebraska license will cost you $128 for the year, not sure if they sell a few days or not??

Not sure about the Dakota’s.

You driving out and what time of the year??

Check out the BLM website. You can buy maps from them and along with a good map of the state you will have a good start. I live in NJ now and still go to WY to hunt.

Contact the state agencies of the States your interested in. Purchase a Delormes atlas and gazetteer for the state. Some of the states have public lands maps. Purchase a OnX so you can study the areas. Try and find consentrations of public land so you can get a lot of sets without a lot of time consuming driving. Check what licenses you need I'm in NM here you need a small game license to access state land to shoot a bobcat you need furtaker( non-trapping trapping) license, quite expensive.

I do this a lot, some years as many as five different states, I have binders of BLM maps for each state I hunt. A GPS with public lands on it. I have a hunting van set up to live in (it's for sale). I can camp where I hunt and cook my own meals so my trips are just gas and license, no lodging or restaurant costs. I just returned from five days of hunting coyotes in West Central AZ.

Have fun on your trip.
